Simple question, but it is late and I I was looking for a quick answer.
If you are within a threatened area and you draw a weapon do you receive an AoO?
There it is!

Table 8-4, PHB p128.

Why do I not need to open my book to know that?!

That reply was quicker than it took me to get my Shrek pillow from the closet to go to bed!!!
All kidding aside...thanks

What Hypersmurf said. Draw - No. Put away - Yes. Took me a long time to get that straight in my head for some reason. Maybe I'm just stupid. :D

Think of it this way:

Drawing a weapon is just pulling it out of its scabbard, sheath, unhooking it, etc. In most cases, you would be familiar enough with where it is on your body to do this by touch, without looking down.

Now, putting a weapon away (as opposed to just dropping it) is a different story. To fit a dagger into a sheath, a sword into a scabbard, etc. requires lining up the blade with the slot in the scabbard. This requires a pretty precise set of movements in most cases and is extremely difficult to do quickly without looking down or breaking your concentration, hence it draws an AoO.

The examples I gave were for bladed weapons, but similar parallels can be drawn for other kinds of weapons (shoving a mace down through a leather loop on your belt, etc.)

I'm guessing this is what the designers were thinking. Makes sense, right?

I belive it was in one of the AEG books (either Swashbuckling Adventures or SpyCraft I'm not sure) that drawing a weapon provokes an AoO unless you have the Quick Draw feat. I like the ruling only because it makes the Quick Draw feat much more practicle to take.
