I remember back in the early 80's when I first cracked open the PHB I was so excited and wanted to play straight away. Well of course the first character I wanted to play was an elven wizard. I remember going through all the cool spells trying to decide which ones to take when I can came across the various Drawmij spells. I remember sitting there for a moment looking at the name strangly when it dawned on me that Drawmij was 'Jim Ward' spelled backwards. I remember a few friends saying they didn't notice until years later.

How long did it take you?

Up until a few years back when I read someone mention it on one of these very forums.

So...figure about 30 years or so into playing. :o

I knew about "Melf" several decades earlier though. Do I get bonus/make-up points for that?

Several years, probably, but I really can't tell , it's all so long ago. What I do know is that I figured out the Jim Ward part, but didn't have the slightest idea who this Jim Ward would be...

you learn something new every day.

i know several of my first D&D characters were named Trebor.

until today.

when I first started (Basic ->Expert -> advanced MM)
I thought it the height of cunning to name a wizard Teesir (TSR)
more recently I had an Paragon level Elf named PLEF. It was supposed to be a place holder, but it stuck.
He was a fairly major NPC, and his death was mentioned in the campaign epilogue.

In my Eberron game every elf is supposed to be a complete badass. (the PCs are goblins) Elves are also smug and superior and annoying.

So the only elf they've met on the battlefield so far was Pusod (Precious, Unique Snowflake Of Death). :D
