Dreams In The Deep

The room to the right appears to be a bunk room, a few simple beds line one wall and a couple of long tables line another.

The room to the left looks to be an office of sorts, with a massive desk occupying most of the space, and shelves packed with books and scrolls line the walls.

As you look in the office, the door behind the desk opens about halfway, then stops.

Pollock concentrates, trying to use the X-Ray vision to see through the door behind the desk, as well as the door right in front of him. He will also check to see if the office door is locked.

Looking into the room beyond the desk you see a large, ornate bed flanked by two small wooden tables. Across from the desk is a large armoire. A squat man with a bald head and beard stands in the doorway reading a letter. He slowly wanders through the door and starts to make his way around the desk, heading out of the office. He is deeply absorbed in the letter.

===============

OOC: The man will be out of the office before you have a chance to look into the next room (behind the southwesternmost door), but you do see that this last door it is slightly ajar.

Pollock tries to duck into the bunk room before the man comes out and sees him. He'll leave the X-Ray vision on to see where the man goes once he comes out the office door.

Stepping into the bunk room, you quickly close the door behind you, and it latches. The priest coming out of the office is still reading his letter and seems to notice little else. He makes his way over to the stairs and finally puts the letter in a pocket before descending.

The bunk room is sparsely furnished. Simple cots with straw-stuffed mattresses and woolen blankets line the one wall, and two long tables with a couple of candles sit against the other wall. Under each cot is a small trunk, about two feet on a side and maybe a foot high.

Pollock slips swiftly back out of the bunk room and into the office where he searches the desk, moves to the small back room and searches it as well. Once this is done he "thinks":

Almost done, my friend. Trying to find any clues while I can. All still well with the girl?"

Quickly searching the desk, you find little of interest outside of letters and documents pertaining to the day-to-day activities of the temple. In the back bedroom you find a large armoire, which is locked. There is little else in the room besides a candle or two on the bedstands.

Yes, all is still well... Although I get the feeling that she is of a confrontational mood, if you catch my meaning. She seem anxious to talk to this person, but is respectful of his activities - he's meditating and chanting down here. An interesting ritual, it involves much genuflection...

After what seems like an eternity - or at least a year, a month, thirteen days, and a half-hour or so - you scan the armoire. Inside was the usual assortment of clothes, mostly priestly vestments, varying from simple workaday attire to elaborately embellished robes for the high holy days. A small chest sits on the floor of the wardrobe in the back.

Just before you stop the scan, you notice something sitting in what seems to be midair behind all the clothes. You then realize that it's a small wooden box sitting in what would be a secret compartment of the armoire, if it weren't for the x-ray vision.

A harsh wind blows in through the window in the back room, chilling enough for you to feel it in the office area. A sharp burst of rain beats against the half-open shutters, and you can hear it on the roof above as well, momentarily drowning out the soft sound of chanting coming from the main hall below.

========

OOC: Sorry I took so long, there, I was, uh... I was in the bathroom. Yeah.

where was I . . . ? Oh, yeah!

Pollock gives his head a quick shake, feeling like he'd zoned out for what felt like a year.

He doesn't really WANT to break open the lock, but is afraid to leave some important clue behind. With a curse, he takes out his crowbar and tries to be as gentle as possible in popping open the lock on the armoire. Once this is done, he takes the box from the secret compartment and examines it.

Assuming it is locked, he will cluck his tongue but decide "in for a copper, in for a platinum." He'll pry that open with his crowbar as well and examine the contents.

He'll keep one ear cocked toward the door in case the bald man returns.
