Drinking at the Game Table?

Back in the early days, I had to enforce a no-alchohol ruling because of a few in the minority who would not be responsible and trainwreck game sessions toward the end with outlandish behaviour.

We've all grown up and those fellows are no longer a part of our group. So now while occassionally a couple of us will have a beer or wine cooler or two, no one brings anything hard to the table.

And as DM I always wait until after the session is over.

It's almost never an issue at my house. Once in awhile someone will bring a couple of sixpacks, but it's shared among the group. My 12 year old son has begun to play with us, and the dad of one of his friends is a really hard core alchoholic, so it bothers my son a lot. I've asked the group not to drink when he plays with us, and being the swell lot they are, they agreed.

My players all but demand that I drink while DMing, they say its makes for a more fun and entertaining adventure, something about a dragon trying to "do the hoopty doo" with a goat, I don't remeber this adventure myself though :D

My wife and I are usually the only two that drink and it's never more than 2 or 3 beers at most during an, at least, 8 hour session. As long as it doesn't interfere with the game, it's not a problem.

Yes, I allow it.

Although generally I'm one of the only ones drinking. A little is a great relaxant, but I'mnot doing it to get drunk. Generally, a beer and a glass of Irish whiskey is all I drink for a session (sometimes a second beer).

. . .

Mandatory Anecdote: many years ago I ran a game of CyberPunk somewhat more intoxicated and it ran AMAZINGLY well. It helps that I am so familiar with CyberPunk that I can run it in my sleep, but I was able to 'wing it' that night better than I had ever done before, and the players LOVED it.

I played Quake 2 against a friend and he was creaming me. I started drinking and, by my sixth or seventh beer, I was wiping the floor with him. He was pissed and wondered how I was doing it. He knew I wasn't cheating cuz he was sitting right next to me. Apparently, I get better as I start to get drunk. ;)
