Ugh...why can't a single rpg forum exist for a day without some Drizzt-gasms going on?

10 years ago, he was cool.

5 years ago, he was played out.

Last year, he was annoying.

Now, he inspires rage on a plane equal to a lvl 20 Orcish Eye of Grumsh/Frenzied Berserker with a bad case of hemmorhoids and a lack of Ritalin.

Please, let all the good drow die...let them die...let them die...

I've never read any of the books and didn't know anything about Drizzt until I read about him on these forums. I also later saw him as a bonus level PC on the PS2 D&D games (which were pretty cool, actually) - the games, not playing drizzt.

I think perhaps at this point, those who don't like Drizzt are the ones who need to get over it. I mean, really, if you don't like Drizzt or PC drow, just don't play one and ignore threads about those who do.

And keep in mind, any timeline about when you should 'get over' Drizzt are based on your personal experience, not anyone elses. What if some kid picks up his first Drizzt novel today and reads it? Is he supposed to be cynical about it and hate him within five minutes of reading about him for the first time?

Sure, for a while, dual wielding good drow PCs were a cliche, but now I think complaining about dual wielding good drow PCs is the real cliche.

Gonna have to agree with you here. The Dark Elf Trilogy was great, years ago, but the spawn of Drow PC's and such that it created made it very annoying. I think it's great the RAS is still read widely but I usually pass on his work.

To my knowledge Drizz't was always good. If you read the DET it is explained in there.

And I'll add, why don't those who consider themselves the gaming elite, just keep moving? You know the type, anytime someone asks a question about the Forgotten Realms, they feel the need to post that the Realms suck.

Your obviously entitled to your opinion, but these Internet tough guys that feel the need to bully newbies or rip on others tastes, stick in my craw.

Just want to state that I love the Forgotten Realms, and I still play there. If I started a new campaign, most likely it would be in the realms.

That said I try not to voice my Drizzt complaints too much, and I really don't hate him that much, I am just done with that series. I would rather see more Elaine Cunningham than another Drizzt novel.

I just thought I would add that. I do not think I am an elitist when it comes to gaming. Quite the opposite, actually.

Bah. Thanks fo UNearthed Arcana, we were playing Drow before Drizzt was a twinkle in Bob Salvatore's eye.

Of course, it never occured to us to play a *good* drow.

While I have no great love for Drizzt, I'm not about to tell someone who may have just encountered the books for the very first time that they shouldn't enjoy the experience.
