Dropping D&D for awhile...what should I do?

try something different

Whenever we get tired of D&D, we try and play a totally different type of RPG. Someone has already suggested Call of Cthulhu which would be my first choice, but Feng Shui and Over the Edge are also well worth a look.

Cheers

well I talked to my group and they are cool with playing spycraft. We have been playing D&D for 2 1/2 years straight. So this will be a nice change. I already feel flooded with ideas, I think the change is what the doctor ordered.

Sounds like a plan. This happened in our group as we played 3E from release up until about 4 months ago. We switched back to Rolemaster for a bit and there's a bit of a split in our group right now so we've been doing 1 shots of different stuff so people can try new things. So far Rebecca ran Vampire, I ran Aberrant and plan on running Arcana Unearthed (both adventures Monte gave away) and a possible campaign after those. Another friend in the group is going to run some Paranoia at some point and I wouldn't mind running an Everquest 1 shot. So far everyone has enjoyed themselves. We'll see what else happens along the way.

What you really need is to run a game at the other end of the spectrum, a good hard core science fiction game of Traveller!

Breaks are a necessary part of Dming.

Of course you could try something like Midnight or AU if you want something a little more fantasy oriented but lower magic in some respects.
