Drow of the Underdark

I don't think they should be reprinted necessarily, but it's good to list them. Does it do that? I haven't go to the feats section yet. I did notice that there was a little sidebar for drow magic items in other books that I thought was cool.

Richard

While it does not list them in a table, there are plenty of references to them. I do not think it unreasonable to reprint feats that appear in Specific Campaign supplements that people may not have.

I do not play in FR, I do not play in Eberron. A feat like Noble Born Drow might be useful to me in a Drow campaign, or even running a Vault of the Drow conversion, but do I really want to buy a supplement that is focused on fluff that I am not particularly enamoured of for a single feat?

I'm really impressed with this book - beautiful art, well-written with a nice balance between new rules and new background details. Anywone worried about a simple conversion of the FR2E Drow of the Underdark book need not worry!

One disappointment though, I haven't yet found any information regarding the special armour/weapons most Drow in the Underdark usually wield (at least, it seems to be missing from the equipment section). Have I just overlooked this stuff or isn't it there?

Are you referring to the whole "dissolves in sunlight" thing? If so, we were told not to include that any longer. (I think because it woefully throws off the whole notion of equipment levels for encounters and/or character level. But I can't swear to that.)

I always thought that the concept of weapons dissolving in sunlight just becasue they were exposed to lots of underdark radiation was ridiculous. If they were quasi-magical from such exposure, I could see them losing their magical properties, but not dissolving. Anyway, I should receive my copy any day now. I would have had it sooner, but I got it from ebay to preserve my vow to not give WotC any of my money since the Dragon and Dungeon debacle.

The whole "damaged by sunlight" thing was handled previously in the "Underdark" book, wasn't it? (Faezress, or some such name?) I like it myself, and keep it for my games.

like why do most drow dress like rejects from a Frederick's of Hollywood catalog?

Don't know if I'll be buying this book or not, but I may pick it up in the bookstore just to see what you DID have to say about it... :D

I browsed the book in the store the other day, some amazing art, looks like some good culture stuff and a bunch of spider monsters.

(I also tried to explain some of the age-old cliches, like why do most drow dress like rejects from a Frederick's of Hollywood catalog? ;)) I leave it up to you to decide if I succeeded at all, but that's basically the point from which I started.

Heh, I read that side bar and liked it. Well done. :)

Page 154 has the sidebar on faerzress and "drowcraft" weapons, which have extra powers in Underdark areas.

Crunchwise, it was more DM oriented I felt. The book mainly had Feats that made sense and were logical to have for creatures that live entirely underground. My only complaint would be so many Drow feats are in other supplements like Underdark, if this was the "Definitive" Drow supplement, it should have reprinted the feats from Underdark, Races of Faerun etc.

I like the book well enough for what it is, but find it lacking as compared to other of the "prestige books". It focused a bit too much on "evil drow" and their society, and lacks the depth of the "versus" side of the other books. Even PC Drow lose out because the PrC's are almost all evil oriented. I was hoping for a bite more for me to use in our current VS Drow campaign.

I didn't mind it focusing on Lolth, but really would have liked more deities anyway. The other racial books invented a few new gods instead of representing old ones, which I didn't care for, but seriously, I hate the idea that anything FR sucks in because FR only thereafter.

OTOH, I mostly bought it for Erelhei Cinlue, so I'm good.

Well, I used to think so, but I've come to wonder how denying players the use of a drow sword or chain shirt is all that different from not letting players lop off a medusa's head and use it against other foes as Perseus did.
