"Drowned vs. Pots of Water Breathing"

First Post
During last week's session, a discussion arose regarding an old campaign. In that campaign, there was an encounter where the party engaged a pair of "Drowned" (see MM III). The party members were under the effects of Potions of Water Breathing at the time and moved to engage these udead. It seems to me that the Drowning Aura given off by these undead, is a supernatural ability. Would the potions of water breathing negate this aura?

Dpends on how it works. If it supernaturally fills the subject's lungs with water, then the pots will work. If not then you are back to square one...

I'd allow it, based on it being drowning aura as opposed to suffocation aura. And the phrase in the ability's description that states:

MMIII said:
All breathing creautres...are treated as if beneath water in terms of being able to breath.

A potion of waterbreathing allows breathing underwater, and thus protects against this ability.
