Drowquest [4e] Raiding the Road (Hiatus)

[sblock=Query]
Do the goblins treet the elder goblin with any sort of reverance and respect?[/sblock]
catching up on previous question

Its hard to tell about the old goblin who followed you in, there are no obvious signs of respect.
Cloudkill gets a lot more attention, but its hard to say if it is caution, respect, or fear.

Drisdhaun waits for all to arrive, and motions that we shoulde keep any discussion in the hand signs to prvent inquisitive goblins from overhearing.

Looking at the rest of the patrol he signs "There are two obvious routes forward here, the first is to leave these goblins to thier own devices and return to the city, or second to consolidate and build a power base from here. My main concern is we do not know what is happening between the houses, we will be returning into an unknown situation. What I propose is we ust this goblin warren as an initial base and gain some influence in the area, while trying to find out the current situation back home. Hopefully we will be able to use our power base here and gain some power by influencing events between the houses to our advantage. Any thoughts?"

"Agreed, I don't want to return empty-handed, nor without our good leader, I fear the retribution we'd receive from the company. We are just novices in our home, but here, we are their rulers. Let's bask in this for some time and perhaps earn an extra bit of coin, hitting these caravans, before we return home." Nashquiri signs.

Most of the group seems content to remain in the goblin lair for the time being. An hour later the Cloudkill and various goblins arrive to report.

“Dawn is approaching, should we set scouts watch on the road, or just wait till near dark and see if there is anyone camping at the usual spot? The campground off the road has fire pits, and lots of cleared space, but no walls.”

OOC: If you are settling in to sleep during the day, where is everyone bunking, and what precautions are being taken?

[sblock=Vorgrym] Ok
You slowly become aware that your sword is humming with power. It seems to have developed an oily residue, that makes the blade look wet. You remember the spreading blackness in the last wound you dealt the goblin chief, and wonder if your blade will do more of the same.
OOC: Acidic Blade - Encounter - make a basic melee attack against a target within 5. All damage is acid.
Daily - deal ongoing 5 acid damage (save ends) with a hit.

Striding out from the shadows, Djaar address' the group, The tribe is in no shape to go raiding this evening. We will scout the area, and bring down some large game. Tonight and tomorrow the goblins will learn the first fruits of accepting our leadership. Tomorrow night we will raid.

Signing to the patrol, We should prepare before rushing into business as usual. Also we need rest. We should take 4 hours of trance. Each of us in a different area of the complex, in order to keep watch over our new holdings until we have established more useful sentry's than last they had. One of us should go close the secret entrance as well...

Javilex nods at this. "I was out there a bit longer, dealing with the overturned ming cart. I can take watch of that area and the secret passage."

Djaar glances sidelong at Nashquiri, I've already claimed the room with passage to the throne room. I'm not sure if that was the chief's old room, but I am sure it is mine now. It doesn't need guarding.

Nashquiri needs privacy during his rest, does anyone else crave comfort? The silent accusation of weakness stands in the open. I'll take my rest at what appears to be our front entrance, Raelyn will you rest in the central hallway, it would give Javilex and I a better chance of hearing if the other has found trouble.

Cloudkill, you, and the current tribe champion should begin prep for tomorrow nights raid, and tonights festivities. This place is slovenly, clean it, especially the barracks, dining, and water. The living condition here will raise overnight, is that understood?

Djaar signs to whomever can see his hands, Not all of this stink is goblin, and very little of it is neccesary. If we improve the conditions, our new slaves will perform better.

Addressing Cloudkill again, Find me any of your number who can count, or read. They will be receiving a promotion shortly. In four hours I want to see them in this room. Every available warrior should meet in the throne room, after our rest, for training. Lastly send relief for those digging, and increase their break time, I don't want to lose the few good bodies we have to exhaustion.

Turning to address the Patrol, One of our martially proficient members should do a quick training with the goblins to gauge their battle prowess. If they don't know how to form rank, we will have to get them in line by tomorrow night. While that is done in the throne room, I'll test the goblins with mental apptitude, they can keep numbers and do the mundane tasks of keeping our tribe *Djaar signs slaves* fed. After the training, we can decide if tonight would be better served in catching game, and laying traps for tomorrow night, or in actually raiding.

Djaar waits a moment to see if anyone has anything to add, or if Nashquiri will react. If nothing further comes forth, Djaar takes up position in front of the entrance, and begins to meditate.

"I'll train the goblins for battle." With that said, Vorgrym looks around the goblinoids present to see if any are able to fight with heavy weapons and if they should stick to their own weapons.

"I think it is good to rest for the night. We can have a feast to celebrate the tribe's new leadership and we can look at caravans starting tomorrow."

[sblock=DM]I'd like to try my hand at an acidic weapon. Thoughts?[/sblock]

The goblins are nearly helpless as solders. They don’t split into groups very well. They play dead, or retreat if injured. It takes someone’s full attention to keep them in line and fighting. With a few days they would probably get better, but it would take weeks of training to before they could fight easily under your direction. The only thing they do well is gang up on someone who is surrounded.

They seem to work okay as bodyguards, one to a drow. They loyally follow one person around and do whatever they say. They work almost as well as the spider does, when following Javlix’s commands.

The new tribal champion is the most enthusiastic, fighting harder when near any drow.
Unfortunately he can’t take pain better than anyone else, falling over and begging for aid.

They are minions. But if you win a fight, many of the goblins who went down will recover. (see rogues gallery)

One PC (or Cloudkill) can act as a commander, effectively giving up their own part in battle to manage a goblin horde. They respond best to commands like "sneak up and attack". "Go over there and make noise then retreat" and "attack those guys." or "run away" intimidate checks may help them obey unpleasent or complicated directions.

As bodyguards they will take move actions to stay beside you, as you move. Otherwise, like a ranger’s pet you have to give up your equivalent actions to direct them to take standard, move or minor actions. You can use an immediate reaction to get them to take OAs.

One of the older goblins admits being able to read.
OOC: I wasn’t clear about the time. The sun is about to rise. The goblins are most active at night, usually sleeping from just before noon till dusk. OK, it works out. There are a few hours for training, and the feast/dinner can be set up for mid-morning.

vorgrym & Nashquari [sblock]

Vorgyrm is furious with his new recruits. They know little of tactics, and he didn't feel sorry at all when he knocked a couple out with backhands. It would take time, but they would learn. They could handle a couple caravans by themselves anyway.
