Druid with Energy Substitution

Could a Druid take Energy Substitution? If so, would you allow it? Obviously, sonic is right out, but might electricity or cold be acceptable for a Druid?

Most of a Druid's attack spells are fire-based, which could be problematic in some situations.

Thanks!

Why couldn't he use sonic?

Sound IS a natural thing. :) As is Cold, Acid, Electricity...

Actually, I can see a Druid so using it. Acid Call Lightning would represent polluted clouds, used in cases like against industrial cities and the like.

Or, when fighting trolls. :)

Sonic and acid don't really scream "nature" to me as much as cold and electricity, but maybe I'm just a strange bird. :)

So a Druid can legally take the feat, then?

There's nothing in the rules that prevents a druid from taking it, in any of elemental categories.

On a personal note, I'm currently running a Drd2/Sor1 that has Energy Substitution (cold).

Maybe the sonic attacks could sound like booming thunder?

I not only like the idea, I'd recommend it. Otherwise, they're tied too closely to fire damage. Call lightning is a Bad Spell (TM). It's tied to the DM allowing you to cast it.

My gnome druid has Energy Substitution (acid) and I've found acid (flaming) sphere, acid (flame) strike, acid (ice) storm and wall of acid (fire) exceptionally handy.

sure...after obtaining 3 ranks in knowledge arcana. so a pure druid could take it as his lvl 9 feat I guess.

T&B has 5 ranks of Knowledge (arcana) and any other metamagic feat as the prerequisites. Is this correct?

Since the level 9 part is right I just assume the 3 key was hit by accident over the 5. (level 7+3/2=5 ranks, next level get a feat 9)
