Dual Monitor newbie

Ok, I finaly got around to clearing off enough Desk top space to put the 2nd monitor up here. I have it running and showing the Desktop. I just don't know how to make anything appear on it.

I'm using an nVidea 6800 (256mb) graphics card, my primary is an 'ultra-sharp' 17" LDC connected via DVI cable. The second is a generic CRT that's connected via the standard serial (analog) port. I have tried various 'modes' (horizontal split, dual mode, ect) and nothing ever wants to 'go' to the other screen.

My goal is simple, I want to run EVE on the LCD while being able to browse and what-not on the 2nd monitor so that I can keep a constant eye on my ship (mining, ect)

Can anyone explain what the heck I'm supposed to do to get this multi-monitor to work?!

ok then, apparently you need to do such complicated things as 'change the desktop arrangement to match the desk top settup'.

I had the monitors backwards, was trying to move things (mouse, IE, ect) off the wrong side.

[Edit] Alrighty, played a bit with the new toy and still have (new) questions. Is there a way to do things with the 'off' monitor (ie: change pages, ect) and NOT have the game on the primary monitor minimize? Not a big deal, would be nice though.

In my experience, games in the primary and other stuff on the secondary only works well if you can run the game in a window -- even if that window takes up the entire desktop. When the game is running full screen, it's taking over all the focus and mouse control.

It's one of those "sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't" kinda thing.

Aha! Another Eve player appears out of the woodwork! What's your in-game name?

Join the ENWORLD channel when you are in-game, a few of us hang out there. :D

And sorry, I can't answer your question. :(

It's been a while since I've played EVE, so I don't remember specifically. If you can specify 'full screen or window' in the options, specify 'Window' and set the resolution to the same as your standard desktop resolution. This will let you experience it more-or-less full view but still let you run stuff on the second monitor and switch easily.

Almost no game will let you run it on the secondary monitor. DirectX just doesn't handle it well, and so few people run dual-monitor that there's never been much incentive to improve it. Of course, you can always switch which monitor is primary and which is secondary.

Doh! You ditched CoH for Eve? You suck Hatch :)

I ran EVE in a window instead of full screen.

If you're just starting to run dual monitors, try Ultramon out. It's a nifty little multiple monitor utility, lets you make a few useability tweaks.
