Dual Wand Fighting

There are a bunch of official adventures that include maximized wands of magic missle, so I agree w/ Hypersmurf.

I'm not sure which bit you're agreeing with...?

A Maximized Wand of Magic Missile at CL7 would cost 21,000.

At CL9, it would cost 27,000.

Being able to cast more than one spell per round is a powerful ability.

That's why they're nerfing haste in 3.5.

That's why Quicken Spell raises the effective casting level of a spell by four (and why, as a result, 6th level or higher spells like harm cannot be quickened).

That's why you can't make a quickened wand with anything better than ray of frost.

That's why I don't think a feat is the solution to this problem. Any dual wand feat would increase the effective spell level of any spell stored in a wand by four without actually changing the item.

Oh and let's not get started with thri-kreen or marilith wielders of wands. That's the next destination on this slippery slope...

I have a house rule for this. If a caster has a wand in each hand, then as a full round action he can fire both of them. Of course, this would require having two wands, drawing both of them, firing, then needing to do something rather quickly.... as the dual wand character will attract a great deal of attention....

I dont really think its possible without something like haste (3e haste), as there are no official rules for it.

I remember in 2e one NPC we ran into carried gun holsters with wands of magic missle in them, and would twirl them around Doc Holiday style. Very memorible character :)

There's actually a 3E item (i THINK it was in the Dragon magazine about gnomes) that lets you do just that. Have multiple wands in an arm bracer. You could use only one at a time though.

empower is better

Why would anyone ever create a wand of maximized magic missiles? Empowered magic missiles are almost always better and much cheaper, you can even throw in some other random +1 level meta magic on top of it.

Of course if you are just a chronic bad luck roller than maybe maximise would be better for you ... but empower has a higher average, and potential for much more.
