D&D 5E (2014) Dual weilder feat needed to draw 2 weapons?

Holding a weapon in hand is not as hard as all that. Granted I only have experience with a rifle or bow. But have carried them for hours and days on end without any issues...

That being said I don't see any problem with drawing two weapons with one free interaction, if ones normal weapon load-out is two weapons then one should be practiced in that action. This game is played with a DM for a reason, to allow for things not spelled out in the rules.
Are you talking about carrying a slung rifle, or just holding it in your hands at the ready or port arms, because those are 2 different things. A sling takes the majority of the weight and puts it on your shoulder and back. But enough with semantics, I think the one weapon rule is fine. Can you draw both weapons before combat when you anticipate danger? Of course. Should you be able to draw 2 when surprised for free, or when combat starts? No. Why, because it gives you a reason to invest in the dual-wielder feat. You can survive a round of combat without your bonus attack. But really it's up to yiiur DM how they want to handle the situation. The majority of the time, if you sense you're going to be attacked, there's no problem readying weapons.

I typically carry a carbine in one hand while following my dogs as they trail lions, bears etc. I don't like slings as I had one fail many years ago and cost me a scope. I carry a bow in one hand as well with the quiver slung. The rifle I usually carry weighs around 5lbs and the one I carry during deer season weighs 7lbs, I don't really notice a difference in weight between the two. I don't know the weight of the long-bow but it feels lighter than the rifles... though is a bit harder to maneuver in thick brush than a rifle.

With rules as written one could walk about with one weapon drawn and one hand free, drawing the 2nd weapon as a free action when combat starts. That would work if the DM didn't want to allow two weapons to be drawn as one free action.

Thank you for everyone's replies.

I apologize that I did not know this topic was already discussed and there was mention of it already in the book.

But gathering opinions and the method of handling it is still very helpful.

Put me in the "It really shouldn't take that much more effort to draw two weapons than one" camp. Unless you're going for a Iaijutsu-style quick draw strike where you want your non-weapon hand to maneuver the scabbard into optimal position it's not going to make a huge difference.
