The Tergarth elves look like normal Tamara elves, being slightly taller than average humans. They weigh as much as normal humans though, being thin enough to make up for their greater height. They complexion is a light brown, their hair is either black or brown. Most Tergarth elves have deep, blue eyes. Some few are born with green eyes. Compared to a normal Tamaran elf, the Tergarth elves are a little heavier built. They are never found wearing medium or heavy armor, preferring leather armor over anything else. The Tergarth elves construct a special hunting armor, called the Mithril-Leather armor.
The Tergarth elves are the descendants of Tergarths army. The Tergarth elves were originally one of the sub-races created by the vile magic of the Drauch. The Drauch are responsible for creating most elven sub-races, a project that was intended to create elves to fill the different niches in Drauch society that the Drauch felt were below them. Ragestepidlos, the Drauch King, used members of his own race that had broken the laws of his people. His powerful magicians and clerics were given these criminals and used the transforming magic of Subraharak to create not only the Tergarth elves, but the Tamara and Cuhrin elves as well.
Samuruin was the name given to the Tergarth elves by the Drauch. The Samuruin were created to guard and harvest the forests of the Tamara continent. The enormous building projects of the Drauch demanded lumber and the Tamara forests were even wilder back then than they are today. The Samuruin were given traits taken from animals in order for them to be more efficient at their appointed tasks. Yet, the Drauch had still not been able of removing the Asmodai curse from their own kin and this curse was transferred to the Samuruin as well. The jungle that had been the base of the Drauch elves while they prepared for their war against the Asmodai, the Rtourth Jungle, was also to become the bane of the Drauch, just as it had acted as their shield many centuries before. The Samuruin were to be found in many forests around the Tamara continent, working as it had been ordered by their masters.
The thing that changed the fate of the Samuruin was the appearance of a great leader, Tergarth the Warrior. Tergarth had travelled the world, being able of escaping the cruel grasp of the Drauch race. He had assembled a large organisation beneath him, an organisation that had but one purpose; The destruction of the Drauch race. Tergarth had found many allies amongst the elven worker caste. His travels had brought him through most of the forests of Tamara and the Samuruin were amongst the many races that supported Tergarth. The elven sub-race proved to be a highly efficient force in the many forests battles that took place between the allied forces and the Drauch. Even though Tergarth was a worker, the Samuruin soon became his favourite henchmen, their honesty and honour being what he admired most of all. The war against the Drauch was eventually won and Tergarth looked for a nice, quiet place on Tamara where he could settle down and grow old. Another race Tergarth had admired during the war were the Dunai, the treefolk that had been responsible for protecting his army when it was still small and vulnerable. He therefore decided to move to the Rtourth Jungle and settle down. The Samuruin, who had been the elven race to suffer the greatest casualties, wanted to move with their leader. The Dunai allowed Tergarth and his followers to build their residences in the Rtourth valley. The Samuruin became known as the Tergarth elves, the most loyal followers of the great warrior. Even though it was not the Samuruin that decided to change the name of their race, they didn’t mind it at all. The name Samuruin even became a bad word amongst the race, reminding them of the oppression they had endured under the rule of the Drauch.
The Tergarth elves bonded with the Dunai, becoming as much part of the Rtourth Jungle as the great treefolk were. The Dunai even created several creatures through their co-operation with the Tergarth elves. The first creation of the Dunai were the Empaths, small psionically endowed creatures that could attach themselves to the mind of the Tergarth elves. When the Empath merged with the mind of an elf, the elf gained access to the flow of thoughts the Dunai shared. The Dunai have what is called a hive-mind. The Dunai Mothers control lesser Dunai by thought alone. The Dunai Mothers are in turn commanded by Tytharielseth, the ancient Tree-Mother. What one Dunai can see, all Dunai can see. When the Tergarth elves tapped into the shared mind of the Dunai, they gained the ability to perceive things through the eyes of the treefolk. The alliance between the two proved to be one that would endure.
Combat
Tergarth elves are very fierce combatants. They always fight together with the Dunai, using their shared mind to invent clever strategies in seconds.
Telepathic Link (Su): The Tergarth elves are connected with the Dunai through the Dunai Empaths. Any elf encountered within the Rtourth jungle is impossible to sneak up on or ambush, as there will always be Dunai Observers around who have already seen the intruder. Also, any Tergarth elf that encounters an enemy will instantly inform the rest of the Tergarth elves of the enemy, as well as any Dunai in the area.
Tergarth Elven Traits: Tergarth elves benefit from a number of racial traits.
* Proficient with Scythesword, Longbow, Composite Longbow, Shortbow and Composite Shortbow, regardless of character class.
* Immunity to magic sleep spells and effects.
* +2 racial bonus to Will saves against enchantment spells or effects.
* Low-Light Vision: Tergarth elves can see twice as far as a human in starlight, moonlight, torchlight, etc.
Tergarth Elven Society
The Tergarth elves worship their jungle. They see the jungle as the manifestation of their deity, Gabraham. Wild and savage, the Rtourth jungle is a good tool to cleanse weakness. Over the years, the Tergarth elves have grown stronger, mainly by learning how to survive in one of the harshest environments in the Tamara continent. The Tergarth elves are almost as fierce warriors as the Calumar elves, being trained from birth in hunting and war. Conflict plays a great role in Tergarth society, both the conflict between hunter and prey as well as between warrior and enemy. The test of manhood amongst the Tergarth elves demonstrates the hardships they train themselves to endure. The test of manhood is actually simply explained. The young warrior-hunter goes into the part of the Rtourth jungle where the Dunai doesn’t exist. Here, he must survive alone for three months, living of the land. The test sounds unusually cruel and almost a fourth of all Tergarth elves perish during this test. Yet, it acts as a motivator for all Tergarth elven parents, since it becomes of paramount importance that they train their child for hunting or war. Should they ignore their child’s training, he will most likely succumb during the test. Any young elf that survives the test is deemed a man and is allowed to go back to his family. A negative effect of the test is that the Tergarth elves loose about one fourth of all their young men, something a slow-growing race like the elves is especially vulnerable to.
The Tergarth elves forage more than they hunt. The Rtourth Jungle is richer on edible plants than animals. Some not from the Rtourth Jungle would find it very hard to survive in. Many local plants are poisonous, some even carnivores. A lot of the time in their youth, the Tergarth elves are taught to tell the difference between the plants of the Rtourth jungle.
The Tergarth elves, despite the hardship they daily endure, are a joyous people. Most evenings are spent playing music, singing, dancing, eating and drinking. A normal evening meal looks like a regular celebration when seen by most outsiders. In the words of the Tergarth elves themselves; “The closer you are to death, the closer you are to life”. This means, that the hostility of their jungle actually gives them a greater appreciation for life.
Most outsiders that travel into the Rtourth jungle hardly ever find the Tergarth elves. The Dunai are always on the lookout for enemies and intruders. Should any intruder seem peaceful, he will most likely be left alone and allowed to exit the jungle again. Enemies are treated with swiftly, slain by a combined force of Dunai and Tergarth elves.
Tergarthian art is not like the art of most other races. The wild elves prefer trophies instead of hand-made art. The scalp or horns of a slain beast or enemy adorns most homes. Often, the elf will make paintings around the trophy, paintings depicting the battle between him and his prey. These paintings are very crude, similar to what a human child could accomplish. The paintings exist to tell how the beast was slain, not to have an artistic appearance. The Tergarth elves never make sculptures of stone, preferring instead to use their Woodshaper magic to create living sculptures of wood. Jewellery is never used amongst the Tergarth elves. Instead, they use tattoos to adorn their bodies. The most common tattoos show either great beasts or a battle scene. Some show swords or bows, weapons which the wearer normally use.
The Tergarth elves make great separation between females and males. Unlike other elves, which always treat the two sexes as equals, the Tergarth elves never allow their women to hunt or fight. The women normally stay in the Tergarthian encampments, either making clothes, preparing food or foraging in the vicinity of the camp. Should an outsider be allowed to enter one of their encampments, it will always be the Tergarthian men who talk to the visitors. Rarely will they be allowed to converse with the women.
Scythesword
Cost: 400 gp Damage: 1d8
Critical: 19-20/x2
Range Increment: --
Weight: 3 lb. Type: Slashing
Scytheswords are unique weapons of the Tergarth elves. They are made of wood, constructed using the sacred Woodshaper magic. The Scythesword is made of Elephant wood, one of the hardest kinds of living tissue. The sword gets it’s name from it’s unusual shape. Instead of having a straight blade like most swords, it got an almost sickle-like blade, enabling the wielder to strike around an enemy’s shield. The sword is also considered masterworked, giving the wielder a +1 to hit bonus. If the wielder is fighting someone using a shield, the target gets one less AC modifier from his shield. That means that small shields and bucklers grant no AC modifier against someone using a Scythesword while someone using a large shield only receives a +1 AC modifier. The Scythesword doesn’t affect enemies under cover, thus granting anyone using a tower shield it’s full AC bonus.
Mithril-leather armor
Cost: 350 gp Armor Bonus: +4
Maximum Dex Bonus: +6
Armor Check Penalty: 0
Arcane Spell Failure: 15%
Speed: As base speed
Weight: 20 lb.
Mithril-leather armor is a combination of normal leather armor and the Mithril chainmails normally used by elves. The armor is made by starting with a basic leather armor. Then, Mithril rings are added, carefully sewn into the leather. Unlike a normal chainmail, the individual rings don’t connect, which makes the armor far more silent than normal chainmails that are normally quite noisy. The Mithril-leather armor is only made amongst the Tergarth elves and hardly ever sold to outsiders. A few druids and rangers have occasionally been given one as a gift.
