DunDraCon- my experience, need feed back

Hmmm, wish I'd met more of you guys at the show---I was stuck in the Dealer's Hall the whole time, but it sure would have been nice to meet some more ENWorlders (I had the pleasure of meeting both coyote6 and Wycen, but that was everyone from here I recall).

I didn't go to Dundracon this year, but have been in the past (actually, a module I wrote premiered there a couple of years ago), and have had similar experiences to yours. Their organization is definitely lacking, and there have also been problems with them cramming too many games into one room, which makes it really hard to hear what's going on. Because of all the issues with it, I heard that the RPGA set up a separate, competing convention this year.

I've played or run about 300-400 con games. Out of a typical con schedule of six games, my experience usually is something like:

1 bad, 2 okay, 2 good, 1 incredible.

If I get 3 good or 2 incredible games, it's an especially good con. I usually forget the bad games pretty quickly. I remember the great games for years.

Yeah, that's about my experience, also.

I usually GM but when acting as a player in a bad situation is is important to not encourage bad players and make sure you're actively trying to be part of the solution. This can mean making sure other players aren't interupting the GM, always being ready when it is your turn, even if that takes a while, etc. If the GM is having trouble finding their game legs, offer to handle keeping track of initiative order or something. There's lots of ways to try and make a bnad game at least "OK" that you can do, but it's always polite to ask and not to just appear to be taking control of things. Keep the focus on being respectful to the GM, even if they aren't the best GM, and the other players will hopefully do so as well.

I was hanging out with Coyote6 quite a bit in the dealers hall, you might have seen me. I was not introducing myself as Harmon. I guess I should have. :\
