Dundracon

Sometimes it's a matter of luck in the dealers room. I remember 10 or so years ago, when the Arabian Nights magic boosters were out, 1 booth had them for $6 Saturday. I bought two figuring they would be sold out soon. Turns out I went back Sunday and found they had more, but for $5 instead.

Between the slump in attendance, the slew of canceled events, and the poor dealer room offerings, well, I'd say this was the worst DDC in many years.

I had fun in my Friday night game, but the rest of the convention was pretty much a wash, game-wise. The game I really wanted (525) had been canceled sometime between Thursday night and my arrival on Friday afternoon; the Gamma World d20 game I got into was a mediocre three-combats-and-I'm-spent affair.

The "first come, first serve" policy enacted this year on the double-double rooms screwed me. I heard from the hotel staff that all the double-doubles were all doled out by 10 AM on Friday morning leaving people who registered for a room months ago and who arrived "early" at 2 PM crammed into a single king with their three buddies. Given that getting an additional room at the hotel wasn't an option (soldout) I find it a touch passive-aggressive on the part of the Marriott staff to offer a roll-away bed as a solution (for which they charged me $18/night).

And the guy heading up the anime room continued to be a rude jerk this year. Politely asking for a schedule of upcoming showings once again had people retreating to lick their wounds.

Looks like it's letter writing time to let the DDC folks know what needs a-changin'. Hopefully they're receptive to input.

Sorry you and your buddies got crammed into a room with only 1 bed. This is why I don't stay anywhere near the con, but then again I'm coming from the SF Bay area, not Santa Cruz.

I don't know how many games got cancelled, I only noticed 3 or 4, but I wasn't there the whole time.

It would have been nice to have a schedule like in past years for the anime room.

Well I agree the attendance was down this year, and the the game choices on some days was slim. :( The stuff with the rooms/beds just blows, luckly I didn't have to worry myself living a little over 3 miles from the hotel.

On the upside, I got to try 2 new games I hadn't played before, and meet Drago in person. Along with some other cool people. :D

Over all it wasn't the best one Iv'e been to but not the worse either and it was still better than working or sitting at home all weekend doing chores.

I run. I got four hours sleep over the weekend. Didn't notice dealers, attendance or game offerings (my choices are always slim anyway). Bumped in to JDragon a couple of times. Did my demo, ran my tournament and my Gygax dungeon and got to play OAD&D on Monday. Went home exhausted, but happy.

Had a few glitches. I'll have some words with Roderick (you here?) about scheduling when I feel a bit more civil . I would've had twelve hours rest if he'd done it the way I wanted. I bungled some things myself, but it was all handled and the weekend was a success.

'Til next year!

What, you don't like dragging your SO out into the boondocks, being surrounded by smelly gamers and having a romantic dinner by sterno burners?
