Dungeon 169 - Oasis of the Golden Peacock

Hi,

Finished reading it this morning and really enjoyed it - great combination of fey and the desert, plus a different-looking sphinx. Well done!

Going to try and find a way of fitting it into my Parsantium campaign so I can run it sooner rather than later - shouldn't be too hard as I have a desert to the south of the city to place the oasis in.

Cheers

Thanks for the comments. Let me know how it goes for your campaign.

So my Dad asked me the other day if anyone had "used this adventure" (he never really got D&D) and I didn't really have an answer. Has anyone actually run it and if so, how did it go?

I just ran most of it.

The characters went because they wanted to find the scholar, as he could supposedly translate some old writings they had found. These writings were about sources of magic. When they arrived in the desert area, they were told of the raids, and hoped that they could be led to the oasis by finding the raiders.

My characters defeated the party of eladrin, kept one of the low level ones alive, and questioned him. He talked a little about the leader, who sounded an awful lot like someone that had killed a party member way back at 1st level on another planet, but had escaped with their fish. They later ran into that evil person when she was using a blood portal. They didn't like her much.

When they got to the Oasis, they managed to arrive early in the morning, and went around most of the encounters. I added a small "woods" between the lake and the cliff, which had a trail that narrowed and narrowed. At the end of the trail, they could head into the Feywild. They chose to stay in the Oasis. They freed the professor, scholar guy. Then they confronted the Sphinx. They did ok on the skill challenges, but not great. They did get the Sphinx to agree to join them on the island after the first round of combat. Of course, the Sphinx never showed. But, the deal was, he'd kill them if they didn't leave immediately after killing her.

The fang golem was converted to a web golem (I have that mini). The chief bad guy was a warlock (bound to the hungry star), and the other servants were now Kaorti Blade arms (my own creation) from the Far Realms. I mistakenly let the the wizard live, when the firetail should have kept attacking him instead of other characters. The warden dropped once or twice. But, they did "kill" her at the end.* Of course, it was 2:30 am in the real universe, so they left as the injured Sphinx came to the island.

*my players should stop reading now*

Turns out she was using feign death, a ritual they will find when they search her papers.
