Dungeon 172 - Demonomicon of Iggwilv: Codricuhn, the Blood Storm

I didn't see a thread about this article yet, but the newest in the Demonomicon series was released yesterday and if I'm not mistaken, this is the first demon lord that had not appeared in an earlier edition. Codricuhn was a primordial who fell in with the Chained God and after his divine patron's defeat, he was cast into the Abyss and became corrupted by the shard of evil (all in all, its kind of a tragic story). Codricuhn and his exarch, the Voice, and described in digustingly vivid detail, as is his rather unique realm. A very interesting article.

Great article. Though I find it hard to imagine a whole campaign based on Codricuhn. Maybe merge it with the Cult of the Elder Elemental Eye, both are related to Tharizdun anyway.

I don't see anyone in civilized society worshipping demons besides Graz'zt or Orcus. In other words worshipping demons that give you some amount of useful power that fits into some sort of archetypal theme (decadent aristocrats and necromancers respectively).

Other demon lords seem to get by corrupting creatures to serve as vessels of destruction on the mortal world. Baphomet has minotaurs, Yeeganhu has Gnolls, Jubilex has oozes, etc.

So what I'm thinking this demon lord is missing is a new monstrous race or character archetype that would be associated with this demon lord, rather than a generic "he has cults".

I don't think it's a coincidence that Codricuhn and the "Elder Elemental Eye" Plane Below excerpt was released on the same day. ;)

I really liked the flavor of the article. I was somewhat amused that Codricuhn simultaneously is large enough for several inhabitable spheres to orbit him, while also only being gargantuan when you actually fight. I imagine I'd treat any battle between him and PCs as him being on the edge of the pit into the abyss, and simply reaching out with one massive hand to combat them...

People tend to forget that Gargantuan is simply a 4x4 square suggestion. I can't remember what page it was on, but I believe the gargantuan entry said 4x4+. Elder Red Dragon or Orcus or whatever 4x4 is ok. But dude with planetoids orbiting him, I'll use 4x4+ thank you very much.

I personally have been pondering how to handle fights on this scale for some time. Still not sure, but those spheres in this article are awesome.

Sounds like an interesting article, unfortunately I don't have a subscription and I won't ask for stats but just out of curiousity what Level and Role are Codricuhn and the Voice? Hopefully things like this will show up in Dragon Annual 2.

I have actually developed a set of quick rules for these in which I introduce 5 new (broad) size categories:

Mega - Castle sized - for Godzilla, Talos
Giga - Mountain sized - for Mokkurkalve, Typhon
Tera - Planet sized - for Atropus, Alklha
Peta - Star sized - for Abraxas, Azathoth
Exa - Solar system sized/nebula sized - for Infinitaurs, Tetragrammaton

The details will be included within my Vampire Bestiary, which will hopefully be out sometime in January.

Codricuhn is a Level 27 Solo Controller (there is also a Level 22 Elite Brute aspect) and The Voice of the Storm is a Level 25 Elite Controller
