For the record, I have zero faith in WotC to do anything involving online content right. Certainly not right out of the gate. I'd honestly like to see the DDI succeed, I want to give it a shot as a supplement to my weekend gaming, but I don't expect it to be of acceptable quality for awhile.

I do find it awfully odd that no one at WOTC will take at least a small stab at explaining why the regular updates and schedules aren't being met.

Even a simple acknowledgement of the problem and an honest and sincere explanation would go a long way. The "deafening" sound of silence certainly doesn't bode well, nor give any confidence in the DDI project.

Being "too busy" isn't really an excuse.

What a retarded thing to say.

Sorry Erik, but please don't be rude about other posters - I can understand your feelings, but we ask everyone to report problem posts so that the moderators can deal with them

Thanks

The whole thing has me worried. Dragon and Dungeon are currently free as a teaser. Now is the time they should be SPECTACULAR. That is how they will sell the DDI. Plus, I know they are busy, but doesn't that imply there isn't anyone who's job is the DDI or even just the Dragon and Dungeon portion of it? Those now e-zines are an important part of D&D, and they should treat them as such.

Have you ever even _read_ the version of Dungeon that Paizo put out? You couldn't be more wrong about it. Those adventures were the best written for 3E. In fact, the only WoTC adventures that were as good as the ones in Dungeon were the ones freelanced out to the same writers who wrote the adventures in Dungeon magazine.

I can't speak to Dragon, since I don't read it, but I'm guessing you're equally off base.

You're right about Dungeon, but sadly wrong IMO about Dragon. In 27 years of buying Dragon, very few mechanics appeared that I would allow in my games. The non-crunchy stuff could be excellent at times. Most of the mechanics appearing in the magazine were terrible.

Eh, Mona...

Everyone blast them, flamme them, hate them. In those conditions, it's humane to not even try anymore, no?

They have PR problems, and we have a jihad on. Very fun for the workers.

So many people groan about the loss of Dungeon and Dragon, but let's face facts: those two "fine publications" were merely outlets for material so ridiculously unbalanced or irredeemable that it would never make it into any actual sourcebook. Because of WotC sponsorship of the two products, people argued that their contents were "official" material, and this allowed them to import some of the worst-implemented and poorly-balanced options in 3.0 and 3.5. Essentially a Munchkin's wet dream.

I take it you've only been playing D&D since 3rd edition. The material copy between sources was more obvious in previous editions.

When the behavior and comments of grognards became painfully negative, like the howling of cannibalistic jackals.

Well, I know that all the screams of "I feel like I've been raped" that occurred when it was announced that the two mags were leaving Paizo's stewardship did a lot to make them take the fans a little less seriously.

I mean, they knew people were going to be upset but I don't think they realized how absolutely bonkers people were going to go.

A quick search for posts by users with "WotC" in their name on the official boards reveals pages and pages of responses there.

It's a big, big messageboard. Just because your question wasn't answered doesn't mean that dozens of others aren't.

This.
