Dungeon Delver and Darkvision?

I don't think an analysis of prestige class requirements is a good comparator for the original question in this thread. The requirements to take a level of prestige class, IMO, are more stringent than what qualifies you to receive an enhanced benefit (i.e., darkvision 90 ft.) of a special ability granted by a particular prestige class (i.e., Dungeon Delver).

I guess the real question is, does the special ability enhancement only apply as a one-time thing, effective at the time the special ability is first gained, or is it an enhancement on whatever your darkvision is at any given time.

It's a tricky situation.

IMO the magic item or spell is a template/overlay on the characters abilities and would not be affected by them.

For instance, lets say a youngling dragon is the recipient of a 'Fly' spell. He has two choices, either use his natural abliity {and manuverablity} to fly or the magical ability {from the spell}

In this manner, the dungeon delvers natural ability is the one extended by +30. Let say there are Goggles of close Night Vision that provide grant the wearer 10' Darkvision. The delver either uses the natural ability of 60', or relies on the magic of only 10'.

Interpreting the rules this way also allow for a Polymorphed character who, previously a human Delver, to Polymorph or Reincarnate as a Derro {or whatever} and benefit from the increased natural darkvision ability.

YMMV

Good point.
