Dungeon Magazine: New Format, New Subscription Price

Thanks aplenty for the timely and detailed responses. You can't please all of the people all of the time, but it does look like you guys are working hard to please more people more of the time.

I think we'll be offering multi-magazine subscriptions at Gen Con. I'm not sure about what's available right now, alas.
Here's hoping this works out, and that it is available to us poor souls who can't make it Gen Con! My Dragon subscription has a few issues left, so I will wait this out, preview the new Dungeon and Amazing Stories, and then decide how to suspend my subscription money.

Thanks. You guys are the greatest.

And I'd say that was some pretty poop hot customer servicing there too, Erik.

Whether I subscribe or don't subsribe - I still buy it every month on the newstand - and will continue to.

I must say though - in case in a year to two you rethink layout matters, that I was a big fan of the layout of the magazine tracking the look of the rulebooks, down to borders and fonts.

While I guess you decided against continuing with that, I loved it. If you revisit the issue someday, rest assured there were fans of the "rulebook" layout & look.

DOWNER
------
It'll come as no surprise that I'm a fan of the cartoon. We realize it's a complex story (not unlike "Wormy" before it, which is probably the closest--but imperfect--analogue we've got), and will be presenting a "The Story So Far" article in an upcoming issue, probably #116. It's something we expected to run as early as #114, but we've not yet been able to fit it in.
For the record, I do like Downer because it does vaguely remind me of Wormy (the best gaming comic EVER). I'm just having a hard time following the story.

one more question, for all you long time collectors. how do you store your old mags? in binders, boxes, what?

I had most of the older ones in binders (the specialized magazine-holding binders), movers destroyed most of those in one of my moves about 5 years ago though (don't want to talk about it, it wasn't a good day). Right now I simply use the plastic magazine racks that you can buy at Target, Wal-mart, Office Depot, etc.

Right now I only have the past 3 to 3 1/2 years out, the rest are in boxes in a closet, I simply don't have enough shelf space.

I am not sure how much the magazine binders cost now, but they were pretty expensive in the past and as the magazines age the metal bars or clips (there were at least 2 different types of binders) wear at the magazines and they begin to tear out of the binders.

I do have one friend that poly bags each issue and stores them in labeled boxes. I actually like to use my magazines, and I let my kids page through them (the horror!), so that simply isn't something I would do.

Erik,

I've been picking up Dungeon and Dragon since the Adventure Path started last year. The AP is what got me back into D&D after nearly 10 years! I just signed up for a 12 month subscription to both after reading your post. I had been holding off because of all the horror stories I was hearing about late deliveries. Sounds like you got fixed though.

Looking forward to the second Adventure Path!

I just subscribed yesterday. The new format is fantastic. I love the idea of a DM-focused mag, and the low/med/high adventures for every issue is a great idea.

I picked up #114 at the FLGS, and it looks good. I'll do the same for #115, and if it is as good or better, I'll be subscribing.

I've taken my share of potshots at Paizo in the past, but I gotta say, they've certainly made an improvement in Dungeon. It will be interesting to see if Dragon improves as well.

Asmo,

Erik just answered that you're not getting 114 but probably 115 if not 116. That's something you should ask Paizo's customer service. Finally, I agree with you that the overseas shipping is very expensive. I can only guess that they are sending the books trough airmail service.
They don't send them through an airmail service as it take 8-12 weeks, or sometimes longer, for my issues to arrive in Australia and then a few days to get to me. The last issue of Dungeon I received was #111 (Dungeon #112 has been in transit for 10 weeks at the moment). Won't stop me subscribing though, and it looks like my resub to Dungeon is coming up at just the right time :D

I do recall when they (Dungeon) were being sent by airmail, through RPGA membership, they arrived within 2 weeks of the US subscribers getting them.

Well Erik, I did recently resubscribe to Dungeon because of the changes. I like the renewed emphasis on D&D adventures. I would however, like more non-Greyhawk adventures. I know that Greyhawk is the default campaign setting for D&D, but you'd think it was the only setting from looking at most issues of Dungeon. A minimum of one Forgotten Realms or maybe an Eberron adventure (even though I don't play Eberron, many are starting to) every other issue would be very much appreciated. I do want to complement you on the Forgotten Realms adventure: Practical Magic in last month's issue. It was very good.
