Gale Force Nine’s Official DUNGEONS & DRAGONS Dungeon Master’s Mat Set contains TWO vinyl game mats for staging your own encounters and adventures. One mat is a simple 1” grid of stone tiles, the classic dungeon environment. With this mat, a DM can mark walls, doors and other dungeon features using a wet-erase marker. This mat will be the staple battle grid for any indoor encounter. The other mat is a green grass field; ideal for staging outdoor confrontations. Like the other mat, a few quick marks from a wet-erase pen customizes the mat with whatever elements the encounter calls for. Add a tree line, forest path or campsite and let the battle begin. The Dungeon Master’s Mat Set is an indispensible tool for every DM!

The Dungeon Master’s Mat Set and all of our Officially Licensed DUNGEONS & DRAGONS accessories are on store shelves now and are also available via the GF9 Online Store!

Gale Force Nine’s Official DUNGEONS & DRAGONS Game Mats are high-quality single-sided vinyl surfaces that are ideal battle grids for staging encounters. The mats lie flat for ease of play and are sold in a sturdy polycarbonate tube for easy storage and transport. The mats may be marked with WET-ERASE markers to temporarily alter terrain areas or make other notes about battlefield conditions during play. The Game Mats measure 20” x 30” and are marked with a 1” grid.

Gale Force Nine’s Official DUNGEONS & DRAGONS Dungeon Master’s Mat Set.......

Peter,

I like the concept. Since I am in the market for another smaller mat or two, I've a couple questions about this product:

1) Will wet erase show up well on these mats? With the dark gray and darkish green mats, I am concerned that even black (let alone any other color) will not be very visible.

2) Are there any larger photos available? The one on the web site is smaller even than the one you posted in here.

3) You may be loath to offer comparison to your competition, but I have to ask: How does the DM Mat compare in thickness to a chessex mega mat? The thicker the better for me, and I would hate to go thinner than the chessex mat.

Again, I for one like the new product line idea of these mats. I hope they are a success for you.

Thanks! I'm happy to answer your questions.

1) When we test our mat prints, we have a variety of pens and markers we use, from new Vis-a-Vis Wet-Erase pens to the no-name brand that came with our laminated office calendar. Marks show up very well on the green field mat, the grid pattern on it is a light grey-ish color and does not dominate the texture. Older, fainter pens do not show up as well on the stone tile mat, but a new pen makes a bold, easy to see mark.

2) There is a slightly larger version of this picture on the front page of our website. I’ll see if I can post something a little clearer on Monday when I am back in the office.

3) Honestly, I can’t say what the thickness is in comparison to the Chessex mat, but the material we use is high-quality vinyl for signs and banners. So while the mats are thin, they are very resilient. This material is very durable and with proper care I expect these mats to last a very long time (says the guy who still plays on blank grid mat from 1982). All of our mats are sold in sturdy plastic tubes that are meant to double as a storage and transportation solution; the tubes are far more robust then needed for a single mat. We expected people who bought multiple mats to use one or two of the 2” wide tubes to store many mats, making the thinness a plus!

(It's hard to read your blue text when using the dark background on EN World.)

Looks like another fine addition to your accessories lines. I'll be sure to drop a blog about it. :)
