Dungeon on CD?

It would be nice. I would be willing to pay for a nicely made CD of the dungeon magazines. Maybe with some kind of search tool so I could type "paladin" and it would search all the dragon mags for instances of paladin (though that would really be a long search).

However it is done, it should be done right...not slapping all the PDF's of the magazines on a disk and saying "here you go, $99.99 please"

Can we ever expect to see Dungeon on CD?

No.

Is anyone from WoTC working on this

No.

and why not?

There were legal issues with the one they did for Dragon. They didn't secure permanent rights for the articles and artwork and comics. This was pointed out to TSR and the resulting fiasco led them to never consider such a project again. Such a project would entail going back to every author and artist (and potentially advertiser) who ever worked for Dungeon and ask them if they can re-use their work. This would be an enormous ammount of money and effort, so no old Dungeon magazines on CD/DvD for you.

As for the later issues, I have absolutely no idea. Maybe once they build up a PDF library of suitable size. Beats me.

That thread makes it sound like it's feasible, but it's just isn't going to happen anytime soon. It sounds like they have some electronic copies of some Dungeon mags, though.

i know Dungeon #1 is on disc. i have it. it came with... i forget... but it also had Gorgasomebody's Something.

Wow, I'm glad I picked up my copy of the Dragon mags when I did!

AviLazar, the Dragon compilation I have DOES have a search tool like the one you describe. It's not particularly good, but it's there, and usable.

In addition to the legal issues, the Dragon Magazine CD Archive also did not sell well. Within a year or so people reported seeing copies in discount bins at several places. As late as late last year or early this year (what? almost five YEARS after it came out?) copies of the archive were available for sale from SV Games. Even without the legal issues, I think the product was considered a bomb (as far as sales go - I bought a copy and love it).
