Dungeon/Poly Sept/Oct Issue Preview

Already did a poll, it's fallen down a couple pages. There was a slight majority that preferred Dungeon by itself or Dungeon but didn't mind Polyhedron over those who wanted Polyhedron by itself or Polyhedron but didn't mind Dungeon, but for the most votes were for the both of them together.

Personally, if Polyhedron were to divorce from Dungeon, I'd select Poly over Dung. From my perspective, Dung is just an added bonus to Poly, and not the other way around.

I don't need Dung. I can make my own. :D

Put me down as one of the folks who loves having Polyhedron bundled with my Dungeon. The d20 mini-games have all been fantastic!

OK enough of this Holier than Thou "Pre-made adventures are for the unimaginative" crap.

A little fiesty when the shoe's on the other foot, ay? I had to scroll through a page of "Ditch Poly" messages, before we got to my post. Quite frankly, I think people should stop bitching, cough up a few extra bucks, and deal with the fact that there not all gamers share the same tastes.

One of the enjoyable aspects of D&D is the shared experience that one gets by actually talking about how things played out in different sessions of the same adventure. Assuming that your own adventures are somehow superior to I6 Ravenloft, Temple of EE, G1, 2, 3 ect, etc is the height of arrogance.

Not to get all Jerry Springer on you, but you don't know me. You don't know my style. What-evah!

I've every Dungeon printed & have been a loyal subscriber since issue 20-something.

... and seniority of fandom TRULY matters to the publisher.

Please ditch the Poly stuff. I don't like it & don't want to pay for it.

Without Poly, you wouldn't have Dungeon. Our subscriptions help fund your side of the magazine. For that matter, I wouldn't have even purchased a subscription if not for the new format of Poly.

Sounds like a poll should be in the works...
anyone?

...because the business folk will DEFINITELY stand up and take notice of a pissing match between fans.

Regards,
Corporate Dog

PS: Didja notice the smiley on my original post Mr. Grumpy-Pants?

And while I'll probably never play it, Thunderball Rally was awesome
Same here...how many of us are gamers who prefer reading some types* of gaming material to playing it?

Come to think of it, crunch and setting material make for sexier reading than adventures. This may explain some sales figures!

How prevalent are gamers who purchase gaming material more for reading than for actual gaming? And...what are their buying habits doing to the hobby? Food for thought...

*: Obviously, not all.

Personally I would like to see 4 magazines.

Dragon: THE 3e Dungeons & Dragons magazine! But cut out the "book of the month" aspect of wasting an issue just pushing a new book down our throats. I wouldn't mind seeing an Epic Handbook issue a month or two AFTER I have the book to fix any mistakes and add too the setting, but a month before the book comes out, most of what is in the issue doesn't make any sense without the rules.

Dungeon: THE Adventure magazine. Not just D&D, a little d20 and other settings would be OK; Rokugan, Kalamar, or Ravenloft. Also, add-ons and fillers are good. Side trecks, NPCs, Maps of Mystery, or a single Inn, Shop or Town would be good.

Polyhedron: The d20 magazine. They need to get Poly out of the Dungeon (quite literally) and focus on settings other than D&D fantasy. The Shanara issue of Dragon should have been here, as could any one shot book-based settings. With a full issue to fill the Spelljammer issue could have included Neogi, Giff and everything missing from 2e spelljammer and this issue's Omega World could have been expanded to include Featherheads and Botanicals as Races, More Mutations and especially more mutant beasts.

(At least being d20 means I can combine Omega World and Darwin's World almost seamlessly)

The Fourth book I would like to see would focus on 3e conversions. I read once that Dragon tries to avoid converting too much from previous edditions and focus on new stuff, but for those of us with bookshelves full of 1e & 2e, a magazine dedicated to conversions would be nice.
A good title would be Renaissance.
