[DUNGEON] The Second Adventure Path series of modules!

Buried away in Mat Smith's latest "In The Works" column, was the following bit of interesting information:

Dungeon Magazine 97... Inside, you'll discover the first published adventure that's entirely compatible with the revised core rulebook. (Don't worry -- you can run it with your current books.)

Written by Christopher Perkins, this masterwork adventure, titled "Life's Bazaar," is the first in a new "adventure path" series. Characters will start at 1st level and end up somewhere around 3rd by the end of it...

And, not only will you get to see bits and pieces of material from the revised core rulebooks woven in there, you'll also run into a few nasties from (and, therefore a little preview of ) an April-release product, the Fiend Folio.

This first adventure is particularly important, even if you want to join later on in the "path" with higher-level characters, because it gives you an overview of the adventure path's main story arc, as well as many of the possible minor story arcs.

So, it looks like the Second "Adventure Path" series of modules will be presented in Dungeon Magazine. I personally think this is great news. The first Adventure Path series was pretty good - even the worst of the modules were eminently playable.

Oh, for those who've forgotten, the Adventure Path modules were as follows:

The Sunless Citadel by Bruce Cordell (1st level)
The Forge of Fury by Richard Baker (3rd level)
The Speaker of Dreams by James Wyatt (5th level)
The Standing Stone by John D. Ratecliff (7th level)
Heart of Nightfang Spire by Bruce Cordell (10th level)
Deep Horizon by Skip Williams (13th level)
Lord of the Iron Fortress by Andy Collins (15th level)
Bastion of Broken Souls by Bruce R. Cordell (18th level)

2nd Adventure Path so far:
Life's Bazaar by Chris Perkins (1st level), Dungeon #97

Cheers!

the news about the Dungeon mag adventures is a bit old, but the fact that its going to contain info from the revised rulebooks and the fiend folio is interesting...

Just put me down as being behind the times. Hey, I'm in Ballarat - the last Dragon I picked up was 300, though I think 301 has finally arrived for me...

Cheers!

I dont like Generic Modules :(

It is hard to argue that the first Adventure Path is set in Greyhawk. As far as I know they are set in a place which shares its main gods with Oerth, nothing more. At least I couldn't find enough information in the modules to determine where in the Oerth would the adventures be placed.

Although I don't complain about generic modules, I think that WotC should follow the old 1st edition modules and includes a box saying something like "if you're using the World of Greyhawk, the adventure should take place in...".

They're set in Greyhawk - The Standing Stone refers to the Elves of the Lendore Isles.

For their purpose, I prefer them to be fairly generic. I personally place them in the Wild Coast, but if I'm running a Great Kingdom campaign, there's nothing stopping me using them there, either.

The more specific they make the modules, the fewer people will be able to use them, and that is a Bad Thing.

There are a bunch of other Greyhawk modules in Dungeon Magazine, of course.

Cheers!

No. We're using the default D&D (Greyhawk) pantheon, but I specifically asked my authors to avoid Greyhawk locations. I'm hoping this will do several things. Chiefly, I want my authors to avoid feeling at all tied down by Greyhawk continuity, I want to keep any readers from feeling that they can't use any of the modules if they don't play Greyhawk, and I want to leave my authors free to create new and interesting D&D elements. The adventures might include a smidgen of technomagic, for example, an element you can ignore if you're not into it, but also something that adds a new level of depth to the module. I prefer not to think of the new Adventure Path as generic, but more as a way to spawn a new, functional campaign world. (No, we're not trying to create a new campaign setting, per se, but the setting will be functional for the purposes of the Adventure Path.)

Bummer. I stopped getting the 1st Adventure Path series in part because they were hard to place in Greyhawk. Basically, they were too generic.

One of the things that got me to look at 3E was that it was being hyped as using Greyhawk for its default/generic setting. Unfortunately, it seems that's never really been true.

Regardless, I hope these sell well for you. Just thought I'd throw some customer feedback your direction.
