Invoke Studios, a subsidiary of Wizards of the Coast, has announced Dungeons & Dragons: Warlock, a new video game due out for 2027. The game features a new character named Kaati, played by Tricia Helfer, and will be a third-person action-adventure game. Players will use spellcraft to "solve challenges and take down monsters" with players having some freedom in how they solve problems.

"We're not trying to simulate the tabletop RPG experience, so there is no dice-rolling in the game — we're trying to really deliver a video-game experience first," said Dominic Guay, studio lead at Invoke Studios, in an interview with IGN. "If you are not familiar with Dungeons and Dragons, you are not going to feel friction, like in that you're missing details of the world. But if you are a fan of the universe, you are going to be really excited about what we are doing with the lore of the series for Warlock."

Invoke Studios was previously called Tuque Games, and made the much-derided Dark Alliance game in 2021.

Gameplay will be revealed in 2026, with a planned release for 2027.

We literally know nothing about the gameplay. At all. Folks need to take a step back.
Action adventure games have RPG elements all the time: Arkham, Tomb Raider, Horizon, etc. Each one of those is a 3rd person action game with talent trees and upgrades. There is no reason this game won't have stuff like that (named after D&D warlock bits certainly, if they exist).
It seems WAY too early to be declaring this game "not D&D" enough.

Also, on second viewing of the trailer, I think either Ravenloft and/or the Shadowfell as settings is likely.

I dont care about D&D purity myself lol.

Game could stink in its on right or be great. Shrugs. I imagine it will have some sort of skill tree.

Exactly. Warlocks are kind of the perfect class for an ARPG type skill tree.

The second-best option being a Paladin.
I mainly see Paladins as Melee types. Warlock gives you the Melee/Ranged/Magic(or gadget depending on the genre) split all in one class. The trailer even leans into that, showing the sword, then EB, then Black Tenticles.

I’m guessing that like a lot of ARPGs, you’ll be able to take some of each as you go or can focus heavy in one area.

Plus Warlock gives you all kinds of odd ball stuff in the form of invocations. Wonder if Familiar and Book of Shadows will be options. Warlocks are one of the most customizable classes.

To be clear, I had no intention of claiming this game is “not D&D enough.” This game isn’t anything yet, D&D or otherwise. But that also doesn’t leave anything to discuss. So instead, I’m discussing the general idea of what might make a video game feel like D&D or not feel like D&D. At this point, the warlock game is mostly just a prompt for discussion about D&D and video game design.
