I started co-DMing for our original and long-time DM once 3E came out. We'd played 1st edition until then, and the DM liked 3E, but he had difficulties (read: stubborness) learning the new rules. He ran the adventures, and I statted out the bad guys, adjucated rules (saving TONS of time), and ran bad guys in combat. The only disadvantage was that I always new who the opposition was, but it wasn't a problem due to my purposefully tacticless character and ability to seperate player and character knowledge. Overall, it was a great thing because it saved so much time for actual role playing and story development.
