Dwarf on the run

Heh. Anyone else ever have problems with the party dwarf in heavy armor not even reaching the closest monster before the battle is nearly over?

:-)

my friend plays a dwarven bard/fighter. she's built to fight giants and we finally see some. he starts casting shield & blur and running across the battlefield.

then he starts screaming how he hits AC whatever and does X damage. we're like, "Dude, they're all dead. Fight's over." he just doesnt understand and keeps screaming how this is what his character does & keeps rolling dice.

we had to talk him down.

::shudder:: poor, poor man. damned dwarven movement

moral of the story: all dwarves should wear boots of S&S

(why do i always think S&M when i type S&S...)

Do I have to tell that my next magical item to buy is boot of running/speed/springing?

And later you should go for winged boots!!!! 12K for 2 hours flying a day, thats a bargain I think

First time my wife played DnD was during a one-shot I was running. I made her character a L2 Dwarven Fighter in banded mail...

Dwarves in Heavy Armor

My Dwarf wears Dwarven Plate (almost counts as heavy armor).

I let the monsters run to me.

Dwarven Defenders RULE!

it always irked me about the dwarf's move. not many medium- sized bipedal creatures moving at 20.

hell, off the top of my head i cant think of ONE...

And please... dwarven barbarians in heavy armour have a movement of 20ft, not 25ft. ;)

Actually since barbarians lose their Fast Movement ability when they are wearing heavy armor(or carrying a heavy load), the poor dwarven barbarian would still only have a movement of 15ft.;)

Edit: Doh! Sorry I didn't notice that The Souljourner had already pointed this out.

A player in my RttToEE group is a dwarven Cleric in armor. In several major battles his usefullness has been severly limited because he can never get to the melee before it's over.

Yep dwarf speed blows. But hell, they get all sorts of other useful bonuses so there ya go.

Probably one of the only people I could ever see taking the run feat.

Speaking of the run feat, anyone notice that a barb running 4*40=160
will still run faster than a human with the run feat 30*5 = 150. Am I the only one who thinks thats.....wrong?

Eh... Barbarians are fast... not a big deal. And they're only a tiny bit faster in the above scenario. *shrug* Doesn't bother me.

What does bother me is how bad the run feat actually is. I think it should allow you to run/hustle longer than someone without the feat as well.. sort of making it a cross country runner type feat.

Oh.. and I sometimes take run with Monks... I like being ridiculously fast and being able to jump ridiculously far :)
