My DD has CQF. Unfortunately, it hasn't been that great of a feat for me. There are some problems with CQF.

1st) With a high AC, most improved grab monsters never hit my character anyways.
2nd) Against Giants and Trolls, who don't have improved grab, CQF doesn't do anything.
3rd) If the monster makes multiple grapple attempts, CQF only works against one (although under 3.5 you could take combat reflexes to deal with additional grapple attempts).

Hi!
I'd suggest taking the close-quarter fighting feat from Sword&Fist to prevent exactly this dangerous maneuver.

Die hard is nice flavor, but not a useful feat for a DD.

My DD (which was built from 1st level) has only been knocked into negative hit points once, and we usually play with ELs 2 to 5 above our level.

The AC/HP combination of a DD is so high, that with some magical buffing spells, the DD should always be the last man standing in the party.

Die Hard is in 3.5. Pre-req endurance. Allows a partial action from 0 to -9 hp. I'll grant that it probably isn't very useful at higher levels, but at lower levels IMC it would have been greatly useful if anyone had it

Depends on what level this character is I suppose. If > 10, replace it with something else.

I don't understand 1. It is a touch attack to start a grapple. You are saying your touch AC is so high (with a DD!) that it always misses? Even if your touch AC was that high, or your grapple check was off the charts, its still nice to get an AoO against creatures with IG. Creatures with abilities such as IG - that are automatic secondary effects, will never hold back on using them without some foreknowledge that you have powers against them. This means you will always get an extra attack against these creatures. The only thing that would prevent me from taking CQF for they type of characters we are talking about is if I already know that the DM will never throw the appropriate monsters at me.

For #1, it is usually not a touch attack. Improved Grab monsters are usually monsters like the Brown Bear, Dire Bear, etc. They hit with a normal attack and do damage, then they attempt a grapple check. What I'm saying is that my normal ac is so high that their normal attack usually misses. I agree that the feat is still nice, just that it hasn't been anywhere as useful as I thought it would be and I can't recommend it.

Ahh, yes, I see what you mean - I agree with you.

Funny how different the game seems to be ... in many other threads, people post that hitpoints are more important than AC since the big bad monsters hit anyways...

What's your AC and what kind of monsters do you commonly encounter? ;)

level 9-10, ac=30-44, hit points =120

monsters= dire bears, hill/frost giants, troll barbarians, white dragons, advanced 24 hit dice Athach, etc.
