Dwarven Monk 4 Advice

Perhaps someone can clear this up. So the text for the Pointed Step Style Feat states, "When your Flurry of Blows power is triggered by an attack that you make with a spear, one target of that power can be up to 2 squares away from you. " Now, from the latest CB update, there are only two (I think up until 15th level and I think both are daily powers) which has the range of melee weapon, everything else is touch or blast, which sort of implies that NONE of them uses the spear. So does that mean the Pointed Step Style Feat is unless except in those two daily powers?

You may use a spear as an implement. Your implement powers thus involve attacking with a spear.

The ranges of Melee Weapon in Character Builder look like a bug/typo to me, not an intentional stealth-errata.

hey freeX, plz let us know what happens to this dwarf guy in the next session...

as for your elf, did the rest of the party retrieve your body or did they just look down the cliff and shrug?

Elf Sniper: As far as the elf is concerned the party climbed down the 160' to get my body. One of the party members, an Eladrin Swordmage, looted me without a second thought and would have left my body there to rot... he has some sort of an emnity towards elves... *shrug* =)

and the warforged brawling fighter volunteered to return my body to my mother in the Eldeen Reaches. I was rather surprised and pleased at this. =)

Dwarf Monk: He worked well. I used the 5 Storms to great effect to clear crap loads of minions, even required the flurry to kill some. Pointed step would have come in handy.

Drunken Monkey's movement was great for getting through obstacles to get to some archers trying to hide behind cover. Silly archers... there is a monk in the hizzouse. =)

At one point the entire party was unconscious except for our Warlord who was out of heals, Fortunately, he had his dragon breath left to clear the field of a gaggle of minions which gave us our last chance to escape before the boss named Tusk (in Scales of War) was able to return to smacking us down with zeal.

Monk Observations: I think I mentioned this up thread, but the monk really seems to fill the role a melee controller. We have, IMHO, close bursts and multi-target attacks for clearing minions and some pushes for crowd controlled combined with respectable damage and a lot of mobility - half melee controller and half striker.

I have found that if I play him that way he works well. I try to avoid the Solo's and Elites if I can and leave them to the more single target strikers and our two meat shields. I love our meat shields! <3 If I do engage the Solo's and Elites I am looking at d10+11 damage (including flurry) with Crane's Wings. My chosen dailies are multi-target too, so if we have a battlefield filling with minions I will be going berzerk clearing the field - Blender ON - so the real killa's can get to work. I have also found that non solo or elite creatures are a challenge, but my powers allow me to significantly wear them down. Monks work better with support.

I would be happy to hear other people's thoughts on monk's in play too.

right on thanks for the story!

As I was imagining, you got looted... hilarious.

It'd be cool if there was a bingo card or something we could fill out when someone gets killed to death on these forums.

We can call it Deatho, perhaps? I think that character death stories could deserve a thread unto itself! Those are always good (and sad) stories.

Another part of the Elf story, 2 sessions previous I earned from House Kundarak a Magebred horse and I was really excited about that. They are not cheap at 4th level.

I think the dwarf here is fitting in just fine. We are a melee heavy group and I am really mobile. Our Warforged has an insane Athletics score and mine is close'ish to his so we are both able to get places that others are not which was really helpful in this last adventure. We were climbing fools!
