E-Tools, A Programmers Prospective

I'm really stunned by your CC2 results, though: on my PIII 1GHz machine (with a screaming hard drive and a half-gig of RAM) it takes about 15-20 seconds to load

when I tested CC2, I wasn't loading a big map or anything. If I load a map with lots and lots of stuff in it load times will be a lot longer.

thanks for the tip, but it didn't help.
Well, it probably won't make enough difference (unless it's REALLY bad), but you can try defragging your hard drive. Something is causing major slowdowns that's machine-specific and it sure would be nice to figure out what it is.

Just out of curiosity, have you tried changing your Graphics Acceleration setting? A number of people have solved crashes by updating their drivers or setting their acceleration on one of the lower settings -- it might have a performance impact as well.

I haven't touched my graphics accelerator settings.

I also doubt the hard drive is fragmented much. The main drive is relatively new and I recently built a clean install of XP on it.

I'm sorry - I meant that to mean "please touch your graphics accelerator settings". Try setting it to its lowest possible value and see if anything improves. (If not, then you can put it back and look elsewhere.)

I suppose I could try lowering them just to see. But if that fixes the problem, there's no way I can leave them at the lower setting. I have other programs that need those settings set up high.
