E-Tools for Win98

My suggestions: make sure your win 98 is as updated as it can be -- http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com

Make sure your internet explorere is likewise updated, to 6.0 if possible.

After this it wouldn't hurt to try those patches again. The order I did them in when I needed them was I did the Jet one last. Not sure if that matters.

I was under the impression that MS is no longer supporting Win98 through their ubiquitous Windows Update service. Someone tell me if thats incorrect, but I read it on MS's site like a year ago.

Windows 95 and NT4 are definitely on the "no longer supported in any way" list.

Windows 98 is either going to be very soon, or is already. (I can't remember when it's actually dead).

Basically, if it's not Windows XP, or the upcoming .NET stuff, MS doesn't want to support it. W2K is going to be supported, at least for now (I've not heard a cutoff date yet).

I dread the upgrades that are going to ensue over the next year. 150 or so 98 to XP migrations won't be fun. :)

I had a similar problem. Try this. It fixed mine. Go to My computer on desk top, control panel, ODBC data sources , click system dsn tab, hit configure button, then select button. Then in directory box on right got to c\program files\wizards\etools\database. It should add to box on left. Hit ok should go back to previous page. In top box type in etools or whatever you want to call it. This should cause yo to be able to access the e-tools database. Btw I am no expert just figured it out by experimentation .Also on speed problems make sure on tracing tab that you are not tracing. Hope this might help.( I run win 98 too)

Is it surprising that that page is blank when you open it with Opera? :D

I think I'd done this, but what the hey, I'll try it again.

I'd installed IE6, then the DAO, then the Jet update. I have uninstalled and re-installed the patches, but not IE6. I may try that, too ...

Well, it's still crashing. After an uninstall & reinstall of everything but Win98. On the plus side, I got another GPF message instead of the dead crash. Win98 says it's crashing on ... that same video driver. Yeah, the one I upgraded. :(

The only thing I can think of at this end is to completely switch out the SVGA software. Or reinstall Windows.   But I think I'll just ponder for a few days ...

DirectX 4.something. I hadn't messed with it because it was alleged to not be called by this program. Then again, since they're up to v 8.1 now ... it won't hurt to upgrade in any case. I'll give it a try ...
