E1: Tomb of Chaos [Judge: Patlin] [Concluded]

(ooc: I'll leave everyone to roll their own clw rolls as Slagmortar, IcyCool, and Nimisgod have started to do.)

The far door draws Nar's attention now that things have calmed down. The door is a massive stone slab with seven large bas-reliefs of animal-headed figures carved into its surface. From left to right, the humanoids have the heads of a hippo, scarab, ibis, crocodile, cat, ram, and an asp. Each of the figures has its hand before it as if it was grasping a non-existent staff; there is a vertical hole where a slender object could be placed.

Stepping back from such an obvious puzzle, Nars takes stock of the rest of the room while the others receive Ishmael's benedictions. There are various pieces of furniture and art objects around the room and most are intact and made of gilded, ancient, dried out wood. They are probably pretty fragile, but it might be possible to carry them out. In addition, there are severl finely wrought alabaster plaques. The shrine upon which Yinopu sat is likewise made of gilded wood and covered in Hieroglyphics. The carrying poles look a little too fragile to use to carry the shrine.

Some of the murals around the room appear to have Heiroglyphic inscriptions. The doors through which you entered have an arcane inscription of some kind. The northern wall contains a mural of archers, beneath which is an inscription. The southern wall contains a mural of servants removing a suit of armor from a figure you now recognize as Toth Nekamek. The inscription below the king is somewhat faded compared to the otherws around the room. There is another inscription on the shrine upon which the jackal sat.

(ooc: sorry yeah, its the -4 version. till you can find someone to remove curse (probably back in orussus))

Rest time? I'll post XP after your next sleep :)

"Look at all this stuff!" says Percy. "We totally need a wagon to carry it all back. What were we thinking? I'm somewhat tempted to head back right now. But we'd leave this open for the gnolls to loot. Perhaps we could send a message back to our employer somehow, and have him send some people with a wagon to load up. For now, let me have a look here."

Percy puts her index fingers to her temple and scans the room, saying "Hmmm."

Cast detect magic. Spellcraft +8.

"Maybe, er, once we've finished searching, a pair of us could, ah, go for a wagon while the rest, er, hold down the, ah, fort."

After examining the door, Nars reports back, "It, er, looks like we need an, ah, staff er rod of some sort." He points out how the hands are empty. "Percy, didn't we, ah, find some, er, figures, er, back there," he finishes with a jerk of his thumb back the way they had come.

The need to solve the puzzle takes over Nars so completely that he has nearly forgotten his desire to wait, though he will likely remember before opening the door. He begins looking through the painted funeral figurines in the room to see if any more of the items can be found. (Search +9)

OOC: We have the following figurines: scarab, ram, cat, hippo, The inscriptions are respectively : Mekharr, Sera, Ama, Nehes.

The inscription on the shrine, as well as the one on the north wall both radiate magic. Nothing else besides what each person is carrying. You do notice that Novrne has a few items that do radiate magic as well.

The figurines you have do match the figure emerging from the door, but pulling one out it would appear that there is something missing. None of the figurines assembled from the rest of the dungeon have any part of them that would fit into the hole that looks made for a staff in each of the figures.

"The inscriptions on the shrine and north wall are magical. This means they are probably trapped. I'm almost out of spells, but I think we should explore further. We might find the staffs we need in other parts of this crypt. I'm unwounded. I hate to split up the party. Perhaps the best step would be to attempt to eliminate the gnolls. Then we could seal up the crypt as much as possible, and bring everything we can carry back to Orussus. There we can get some of our reward, buy a wagon and return. Other than the gnolls, everything else here may stay where it is now." Percy strokes Fridly absently as she speaks.

Ishmael snaps out of it and seeing the heavily bleeding Rodimus and the unconscious Nezrak, he spends 3 charges each on them. He spends 2 on himself.

"Friends," he tells them in a hollow voice. "I feel ill, as if the Jackal has cast an enchantment upon me that refuses to abate"

[sblock=ooc]Thanks for rolling all those nim. So any concensus on where to go next. Everyone is pretty much healed, but Ishmael is cursed and many people have used up spells and abilities. That and you have a boat load of heavy loot.[/sblock]

"Well, er, ah, I don't think we should, ah, leave this place unguarded. Rodimus and, er, Ishmael can, ah, move quickly. Maybe they, er, could get an, ah, wagon."

OOC: Nars thinks we should get a wagon somehow, but does not want to leave the tomb unguarded. How far was the trip back to the nearest civilization? Rodimus and Ishmael (with Courage) are fast. They could maybe zip back to civilization and bring back a wagon quickly.

(ooc:it was I think 4 days, maybe 3 to a smaller village (I kind of hand waved travel time in the opening part) though there might be other options nearby...)

OOC: That's why I asked. :) Rodimus and Ishmael could go twice as fast on the way back since they won't have Nars slowing them down, but bringing the cart back would probably take the full time. So at least 4-5 days.
