I was flipping through Gods, Demi-Gods, & Heroes tonite, and also thinking about that great drawing of Thor (I believe) posted recently by the late, great, Jim Roslof.
I think 4E with some re-skinning would make for a great ruleset using the Mythology of the various cultures in Earth's history- Egyptian, Norse, Japanese, Greek, Roman, etc. Of course the Gods are real, magic is real, the underworld is real, and there would have to be some liberties taken with timelines and such, but.. Basically something like Glorantha but with the Earth's cultures & cults instead.
Has any publisher done something like this?
About the only things I'm fairly familiar with in passing is the "Fantasy Earth" implied setting of RQIII, and Yaquinto's Man, Myth & Magic. I know Avalanche or someone had the cheesecake cover books in 3E, but I never bothered checking those out.
