You needed to work with such large numbers to make the armor system work. 4/10's armor would make 100 points=zero. 10,000 points of damage = one point. It was all just a question of scale.
I have to admit I was always confused why people handled the MDC damage of RIFTS better than they handled Synnibar. Synnibar you add up the damage and move the decimal place by how many tenths of armor you had, then subtract from your hit point total. RIFTS you total it up, sutract and subtract, unless you didn't reduce the damage. I just saw the math in Synnibar as much easier. Even after 2 years the 8 players I had didn't get "it", but they were very good at using their calculators, especially the college graduates!
