Eberron...is it worth picking -up?

*doesn't regret having the ECS either* Just think that Magic of Eberron was kind of a waste and they ruined any fun I had for religions in Eberron with Faiths of Eberron.

Whilst Magic of Eberron was a bit bland, I admit, I am surprised that you found fault with Faiths of Eberron. They did a solid job of developing up the major religions, and added a few more cults, which is appropriate given the setting and the immediate post-War period. I am glad that they resisted the temptation to talk about gods - as these books often do - and instead talk about the organisations of mundanes, and their beliefs.
 

I was hoping they might talk more about Demon cults/devil cults in relation to their D&D counterparts. But eh.

I'm not saying it's worse than Magic of Eberron. It isn't by a long shot. I just thought there could have been more fluff to it. Maybe a PoV from a dead person. :p
 

Well, Eberron doesn't really have true demon or devil cults the way, say, Greyhawk does.

Generally speaking, everything like that is folded under the umbrella of the cults of the Dragon Below, which could focus on daelkyr and the madness of Xoriat or on the Lords of Dust and their overlords, or both in sequence or simultaneously - these people are seriously screwed up, after all!
 

Still...

For an Orcus fan (and indeed a fan of the Archfiends in general) if they want to have a cult, they have to, what follow the Lords of Dust? I mean yeah sure, they are fiends and all, but not exactly the same as say the Redeemers of Baphomet or Hellfire Wielders of Mephistopheles.
 

You can't assume that Orcus and co. even exist in Eberron. Do Pelor and his buddies?

That said, there are ways to fit them in. Fiendish Codex web enhancements take one approach, which is probably the easiest: demon lords and archdevils are generals of Shavarath.

Keith Baker's adaptation notes for the Savage Tide adventure path in Dungeon cast Demogorgon and other demon lords as powerful unique fiends of the Age of Demons, trapped within the depths of Khyber but not bound to a single location as the true overlords are. More powerful than the Lords of Dust, less powerful than the overlords.

I prefer the latter approach. I wouldn't use Orcus - I find him dull - but I like the idea that the archdevils constitute the lords of a fiendish empire in the underworld, and that various demon lords roam within impossibly vast realms as well.
 

I like the lightning train and the airships. I really enjoy being able to redline travel but the best thing about trains and ships is the opportunity to fight aboard them. Also trains are great for detective stories.

I can't stomach the Warforged. Luckily I don't have one in the party. Still, they are too important to be edited out. The setting need the warforged and vice versa. So, I allow them. My group has a shipmate called Mute who is warforged who's only function is to guard the airship whilst the party leaves. I try to belittle them, I know. My players are joking about joining the organized warforged haters of of Eberron. Heh.

Initially I didn't like the Quori stuff but I know realise it's great for higher levels. I'm trying to add some of that as foreshadowing.

Eberron is inspiring in a way because it's inspired itself by cool stuff. I'm making mostly mummy and ghoul adventures right now but we are working our way to an Where Eagles Dare episode right now. Of course Shloss Adler houses a Cannith forge.

Shadows of the Last War is not very pulpy though. I'm running it right now but it's pretty dull. I probably won't continue that series.

Thing is, the Tin Man from The Wizard of Oz is a pretty good archetype for the Warforged, and the story was no less fantasy for that. (Indeed, it actually predates Lord of the Rings.)
