Eberron: My issue with the 4e setting

Re: Lots of stuff Hellcow said:

I really appreciate your input. Lots of really great points.

Specifically, I kinda like the Cleric of Jorasco idea. I would still love to see multiclassing like spell-scars for each house, but I get that that would take up a huge amount of space. Then again, the EPG could have done with a bit more heft.

Hearing that you've been granting the rituals for free without incident definitely sounds like a house-rule to yoink, too.

I should acknowledge that I understand the issues with the 3e Dragonmarks and how a single CLW didn't much matter. In that respect 4e Marks are an improvement. This whole thread has thrown them into a new light. I'd have done some things differently, but I wouldn't say "they suck" anymore.

Still, they still don't feel "important" enough to me.

I do think that the dragonmark rituals should be gained automatically, or be usable x/day for free, or both, in order to make that aspect of the mark useful to classes that already come with ritual casting... That's the one big oversight with the 4e marks, IMO.

Works for me :)

(I'm playing a draonmarked character in a game Spatula's running)

I really like these ideas.

Do you (Keith or anybody) have any ideas how these ideas might apply to the few marks that don't really have combat uses and/or directly magnify powers? I.e., Scribing, Hospitality, Making, and Detection. In some cases I can see a few things you might tie to these marks, but it's definitely harder for these than, e.g., thunder and lightning powers for Storm...
To build on Keith's comment about limiting certain rituals only to Dragonmarked characters....

I think it would be a good idea to add rituals that only can be gained by those with a certain dragonmark. It could be a good excuse to introduce a ritual from a new splatbook, or a third party book. It could also be an excuse to create some new rituals. In fact, new dragonmarked rituals sounds like a great Dragon article.

I hope that there will be some additional Dragonmark based feats in DDI or other supplements that will expand on this. If not, I'd have to house rule something.

One idea I have is a feat that creates kinda "virtual component reserve" that you can spend on rituals linked to your mark.
