[Eberron]The Lord of Blades is Dead!

Perhaps the LoB's mind escaped in the form of a docent component; any warforged who puts it on is at risk of being possessed.

I like this, but with the concept two addtions...

1.) The LoB is older than these current warforged, dating back to Xen'drik

2.) Each "host" LoB colors his personality accordingly. The last "host" was Bulwark, who wished to forge a utopia for warforged. The next? Perhaps not so altutistic (as bad as the current LoB is...)

A undying evil could lay dormant while usurpers vye for his throne...

Consider this "yoinked"

Since we're on the topic--has anyone else drawn a mental parallel between the warforged (Khorvaire's cast-off children, who some claim are without souls) and Battlestar Galactica's Cylons (humanity's cast-off children, who humans claim have software, not souls)?

Semi-sentient Frankenstein's Monsters-style robots are all the rage amongst the trendy nerds these days, apparently. :p

Yes. But I must admit I am not so much interested in the morals, but in a Cylon/Warforged running through dungeon corridors and massacring crewmen/inhabitants, a Cylon/Warfoged that has to be stopped by the heros :)

Keep in mind that to the general public, "The Lord of Blades" is an Urban Legend, the story you tell your kids to keep them from growing up to be Artificers.

So, many people will respond the same you would if someone told you they had shot a BigFoot or a Grey Alien, Right..... ;)

This is true. However, there are ways to confirm truth in D&D that don't exist in the real world, so it won't take long for everyone to realize that they did what they said they did. I figure the Inquisitive has a staff of 'Augurers' who serve as magical fact-checkers before a story hits print (actually, we are going to do an interview IC so I can write the front page article of the PCs' victory).

What I am really interested in isn't so much how or when the LoB will return -- I already know all that, and it is a ways down the line -- but what will happen now that he's gone. Sure he was a bogeyman to the common people, but the nations of Khorvaire have an interest in the Mournland and the LoB must have had some impact on their policies. Also, the PCs are in possession -- momentarily -- of a massive Cyran fortress/creation forge (which they can't operate since they destroyed its power-source as part of their assault) -- someone is going to take notice.

Anyway, thanks for all the replies.

Well my players last week killed off the Lord of Blades also in his flying citadel no less.
It was a grand fight made up of 6 10th level characters against the LOB, a 20th Lvl Cleric, two behirs, a beholder, 4 undead orcs, 2 undead minataurs, two titan warforged and a single goblin. There was also a two attack cameo by Vol ;)
The combat took over 4 hours across two sessions and was a blast. The druid was turned to stone, the wizard went down twice and the warforged was occupied with the behirs for most of the session.
After searching LOB's body they discovered he was not a Warforged after all but a man in a suit. :] Now since this happened in the Mournland there are no witnesses and they are not sure if they have killed the real LOB or not (they have). The LOB was doing a project for Vol and now they expect retaliation from her and her followers.
I had planned them confronting the LOB for quite a while but when they reached 10th before they met I decided they could off him if that was how it turned out because how I see it he was only really a medium mover and shaker in Eberron.
