Eberron: The XTREME D&D Setting!

The most extreme thing about this setting is the hyperbole that so many detractors use to describe it. :) It's not due for several months! Let's make sure the Bantha's in season before we hunt it!

Ehr... I'm going to go on a limb here, but how many folks play Rangers as "peaceful cartographers" that never go to "dangerous and exotic locations"?
I think that was just an explanation of why it was "extreme explorer," not simply "explorer."

Meh. I wrote off Eberron because of the hype long before any of this "extreme" language was used. Plus, I'm not into steam punk, trains, and such... It just doesn't suit my taste.
The hype? All I've seen is negative buzz from people who don't know much about the setting and glowing comments from those who attended Winter Fantasy and actually played it.

I wonder how many times Wizards will have to clarify that Eberron isn't steampunk before people stop thinking it is.

I'm really looking forward to Eberron. Everything about it so far sounds really interesting. Kieth really put my fears to rest regarding the whole "extreme" thing. That was really the only thing I head heard about he setting that bothered me, and it turned out to be false.

From my point of view, Eberron looks to be something like:
Greyhawk + Indiana Jones + Starwars* = Eberron
* Not the technology, but the themes, mood, and action.

This is a good thing. It'll be a good opposite to my Midnight campaigns. :)

Uh... It's still "Extreme." The class is "Extreme Explorer" not "Extreme Ranger". Note that Keith even refers to it as "EE". In the quote above.

The word "Extreme" has become cliche in the last few years, so changing
the name would be nice...

I really don't have a problem with one prestige class called the "Extreme Explorer". It was the implication that there would be an "Extreme Ranger" and maybe "Extreme Fighters", "Extreme Wizards" etc. that worried me.

Now that we see that the word "extreme" will not be appearing throughout the setting as I (and many others) had feared, I've got no worries.

Yeah, "Daring Explorer" would be better, but oh well....*shrug*

Extreme Sports are actually the source of our disdain for the term Extreme.

I am still extremely:) bothered by the use of action points, ESPECIALLY to activate class abilties! It's like spending hit points that you will never get back. I would rather see a system where you get a much smaller number of points that renew periodically, than a large pool that are gone forever when spent.

Yes, the hype. Like on their website, in Dragon Magazine, on various messageboards...

Yes, we've all seen WotC say it isn't Steampunk but oddly enough it carries a lot of elements from that genre, based upon preview material I have seen. Saying it isn't steampunk while still containing elements from it is sorta like saying someone's "Asian Rice" recipe isn't fried rice even though it has rice that is cooked after steaming, eggs, some vegetable and soy sauce. How does Steampunk-ish work for you?

When I think "explorer", I think of "Pizarro", "Drake", "Cortez", etc. Hardly "peaceful cartographers".

Like, DUDE, I'm, like DUDE, not, like, DUDE, just any old "explorer", DUDE! Like, DUDE, I'm, like DUDE, like a totally EXTREME explorer, DUDE! Like totally EXTREME, dude!
