Well, that's excellent news. I'm not really plugged into AL, but support in AL probably means something non-AL groups can use, even if it's just some side quests.

How does this work technically?

Certain rules in the Players Handbook contradict the Eberron setting.

Since Adventurers League is strictly legal (rules-as-written), how will they reconcile the rules?

For example, some of the religions in Eberron lack gods, and all of the religions in Ravnica lack gods (discounting certain archfiends). Strictly speaking, the Players Handbook cleric class makes these settings illegal.

Will Adventurers League officially address these and other discrepancies?

That was my first thought: an initial source of 5e Eberron adventures for play/kitbashing...

Certain religions count as Gods mechanically even if they don't contain any Gods, example Undying Court, which they accidently made AL legal.

The 5e mantra when it comes to rules is: the specific over rules the general. They simple need to have a specific rule for Eberron. Nothing to see here.

I’ll be quite curious to see how this plays out. Will there be cross-play (say, spend X number of Downtime Days to travel to Eberron or Ravnica or Faerun) or will they be kept separate? They’ve talked repeatedly about not wanting to fracture the brand, and allowing portability seems like it would help avoid that.

Adventures League is NOT strictly RAW. Never has been. It's mostly RAW with campaign specific rulings and DM specific rulings for grey areas. (Sage Advice can be used or ignored at the DM's discretion, for example.)

Adventures League has their own set of changes to the main rules (mainly in regards to treasure and XP).

If they are going to use a specific setting, they'll use whatever specific rules changes apply to that setting, either in their own book or in a PDF document.
