[Eberron] What happened to Cyre?

Keith has said that the whole what and why of the Day of Mourning isn't going to have an official answer given by WotC. That's one of those mysteries that are going to remain in the setting.

This doesn't mean that someday someone won't change their mind. However, it's the current intent.

Yeah, there was some of that in the original version of the FR.

I hope they keep the mysteries in Eberron.

Yah, the fact that it effect confines itself to the borders of Cyre make me think it was a defensive measure that went horribly wrong. Possibly it was intended to kill non-cyrans within the countries borders but they couldn't get the targeting down, or it was tampered with. Also the lack of preparation for the event makes me think it was triggered early.

So, it was intended as a defensive weapon, but someone screwed with it. Possibly agents of house Phiarlan.

It is a personal wish that the destruction of Cyre would be revealed... and revealed by the guy who created the setting, Mr. Keith Baker.

It is a distinct possibility down the road that Wizards designers unfamiliar with Eberron will be assigned to write for/manage Eberron, and handle the setting unaware of the decisions that went on before. Already discussed on this board are minor inconsistencies in novels and game materials that break with Keith's "campaign setting bible."

There is the recent example of Planescape where, many years after the setting came out, the Planar Handbook published stats (very vague stats) for the previously "never-to-be-statted, always-to-be-undefined" Lady of Pain.

It's an eventuality that everyone's been predicting from the beginning, kinda like Death and Taxes. Any time you have a committee-managed project, there will be the occasional rough spot. But if someone does later reveal "the TRUTH truth behind Cyre", it shouldn't make a difference to fans of the setting. For that matter, I like Sharn and don't like Races of Eberron. My campaign will have Cannith Wand Adepts, but not Lifeforged, and will have the Race of Eight Winds, but not the Warforged Wings. :) Yet, it will have the different factions of Shifters (I liked that concept).
