[Eberron]What race to play?

First Post
Just wondering what people's experiences are with the various new races -- which are easier to play, which are more difficult? Are there one or two you would recommend for a beginner? And, of course, which, in your personal experience, are the most fun?

Thanks!

Halflings and Gnomes are really interesting in Eberron--but trying out one of the new races is always fun, too.

I really like Warforged and Changelings. Each for their own reasons. The Races of Eberron book adds a nice layer of choices and customization to them. Personally, I'd play a Changeling.

But what the others have said stands for itself, really: if you're a beginner, stick with human at first. Then experiment races you've seen in the game and really liked for one reason or another. Then as the knowledge of the game grows you'll increase your range of choices as well.

I'm playing a Kalashtar at the moment, and finding it very interesting indeed. I'd agree with the others that you should try something that you can easily identify with for starters, but once you get to grips with the setting, go ahead and dive into one of the more exotic races. The setting is built in such a way that you should find plenty of interest for one of the newer races and won't feel that sense of alienation that often comes with non-standard PCs. That's one of the strengths of the setting, imho - the fact that it can make all this weirdness fit together relatively seamlessly.

We've had at least one of each in our games since the ECS came out. Warforged is maybe the most challenging mechanically to play, since it's fairly different, but other than that, they're all on par with playing an elf, or a dwarf, or something like that.

IMHO

Changeling: Game Mechanic-simple; Roleplay-complex; Most of the benefits (and issues) of this race are social/roleplay.

Kalashtar: Game Mechanic-simple; Roleplay-involved; The tough part is remembering your not "human", but unless the game makes use of Psionics there is little point in playing one.

Shifter: Game Mechanic-involved; Roleplay-simple; Takes some time to "build" but the personality can be as "simple" or "complex" as you wish.

Warforged: Game Mechanic-involved; Roleplay-complex; It is easy to remember that you are't human, but it is tough to figure out what your character "likes" or "wants".

For a person new to roleplaying the Shifter is probably the easiest, because the toughest part is choosing shifter traits/feats, after that the "character" will suggest itself.
