OK -- so I see that the player's guide to castlemourn is FREE at dtrpg.com. Can enyone tell me about this setting and it's in-game and out-of-game history?

Is Ed unhappy with the Realms as they are today? What were his motivations for creating this setting?

I don't know about Mr Greenwoods motive for creating Castlemourn. Probably a bout of creativity that needed direction and took the shape of this.

But I must thank you for bringing this download to my attention! I had no intention of buying Castlemourn (due to budget restraints) but I was curios to learn more. Now I can! And if I like it ... well, it's a wise marketing move, at least it's starting to pull me in!

Well, the Realms are no longer his. He sold them to TSR/WOTC a long time ago. I imagine that's why we are seeing this. Much like EGG has come up with a bunch of new games/settings.

I'm gonna look into this today and see if it's to my liking.

Whiz - from what I can tell, the campaign setting book isn't due until later this fall, but I can't find any information on the Margaret Weis Produtions website.

I know that Goodman's DCC World was at Gencon, but isn't available until sept or oct.

It's a relatively small, manageable setting, intended for use either on its own or as a worldwalking destination -- the free player's guide is surely the best introduction. He originally created Castlemorn (as it was then) for Jim Ward at Fast Forward Games, Jim and Sean Everette did develoment work on it, Fast Forward folded, it was acquired by John Danovich of Studio 2 and was going to be published via Jim Butler's Bastion Press, then Margaret Weis's company acquired and is finally publishing it.

Overall, I don't think he is unhappy with the current published Realms, but you can bet there are developments he likes and some he regrets. Ed has created several fantasy settings and written for several others, so writing Castlemourn doesn't indicate dissatisfaction with the Realms. Beyond that, you're into speculation.

Did the big setting book come out at GenCon?
Back page of the Player's Guide says it's scheduled for November.

I was able to buy DCC 35 at GenCon. No I didn't see Castlemourn at GenCon, then again I don't remember seeing/going by Margaret Weis' company at GenCon.

I should have paypal'd you some money to get me one too. :P

Yes, you should have. I am finding it very enjoyable to read. It is meeting my expectations.

Hmmm. Then again, maybe it is good I didn't have to pick up a copy for you. I was only a couple of pounds shy of my weight limit getting back on the plane to leave. I think I had 8 pounds left over and I think the boxed set is 4.1 pounds, so I could have fit it in.

I bought over a 120 pounds of stuff at GenCon, well, including the Ennies auction stuff I won and picked up.

That reminds me, I need to remind Jason Parent he still needs to mail me my Iron Heroes HB book he forgot to bring from Canada.
