[Edit: EN World is gonna change! If you want your say, you're running out of time!]

Well, that was fun

The new EN World is coming along. One of the functions I've had coded (still in development, but nearly there) is the Friends Newsfeed and Profile Wall functionality (like Facebook, basically).

If you have some spare time, please head to the new site and help test this function and report problems back here. Here's what you need to do:

1) Your EN World user account will work there (if it was created before Jan 7 2010).

2) Become "Friends" with each other.

3) Do stuff on the site. Anything you can think of - create and join groups, post threads, reply to threads, create picture albums and upload pictures, write blog entries, comment on blog entries, give reputation (experience points), post messages on profiles, create polls, vote in polls, etc. Anything you can think of!

There are then two pages to view the results of this:

1) User profile pages.

2) The "Friends Newsfeed" page (link in the top navbar tabs on every page).

Thanks in advance! I can report any issues back to the developer and have them fix them. Don't worry too much about the bad grammar - English is his second language, but I'll proofread the grammar before we go live. Just worried about actual functionality right now.

Tried to start a new thread in the General Forum, got this message -

Fatal error: Call to undefined function convert_wysiwyg_html_to_bbcode() in /backup/www/vb4dev/htdocs/forum/vbstyle/vbnewsfeed/vbnf_newthread_post_complete.php on line 0

I was attempting to start a new thread with a poll.

I also set a reminder for three days before your wedding. Seems to me that Gencon would be a good time for a bachelor party.

It appears that the new thread still posted despite the warning (though no poll option was offered).

Started another new thread in the Media Lounge (without an attempt at a poll) and got this error message -

Fatal error: Call to undefined function convert_wysiwyg_html_to_bbcode() in /backup/www/vb4dev/htdocs/forum/vbstyle/vbnewsfeed/vbnf_newthread_post_complete.php on line 0

- but as before when I backed off the message and checked the forum the new thread was indeed there.

Can you update with any specifics of what to test or look for? Narrow the focus a bit for time saving's sake?

I can't even get to the site. All I get when I right click the link is...

The encoded file /backup/www/vb4dev/htdocs/forum/vbstyle/vbnewsfeed/vbnf_global_complete.php has expired.

Yeah, I posted this days ago. The new function files had a 5-day expiry date.

I tried to be as clear and concise as I could. I honestly can't think of a way to narrow it down.

1) Become "Friends" with each other.

2) Do stuff and look at:

2a) User profile pages.

2b) The "Friends Newsfeed" page (link in the top navbar tabs on every page).

I'm not sure how to phrase that in a more clear or concise manner (I've just... copied and pasted and changed the 1/2//2a/2b if that helps); if anyone has any suggestions on how to phrase better, please feel free to suggest it here. I did my best!

However, not to worry. The files have expired. When we move, we'll get what we get! If anyone complains - they had their chance; the new ENW was apparently singularly uninteresting to people! :)

So if we get the expired error...how do we continue to the site?

You don't. This thread got bumped too late. The code had a 5-day expiry on it.

I'll let folks know if I can wangle another trial period out of the developer before I have to pay him. However, given that the Lone Wolf thread got 344 replies and 11,259 views in one day and the "new EN World thread" got 9 replies (2 mine, so 7) and 109 views in 9 days, I'm pretty much going with the feedback I got - funds are unfortunately limited (side-plug - get an EN World subscription!)

I'll try for another iteration/expiry on the code, but the developer doesn't work for free! So I'll attempt to get one more iteration out of him (assuming I can roll high enough on my Diplomacy score), but if I can't then I can't - we go with what we have. But he wants to be paid and move on to another project for someone else. I think I can get one more iteration out of him, and I'll post if I do.

I did try to give folks their say! :)
