[Edit: EN World is gonna change! If you want your say, you're running out of time!]

It seems people are misinterpreting things.

Did you ever notice that you have a Friends function on EN World? Do you visit the news site? Do you check the Gamers Seeking Gamers stuff? Do you use the blog(s)? Regardless of whether you do or not - does it inhibit your ability to post on forums and threads?

The new stuff Morrus mentioned basically is some additional functionality in that area. It doesn't replace the forum functionality. It will also improve the forums itself (there are a few bugs in the current software that lead to stuff like moderations being unable to move threads, getting sent to wrong threads after answering a poll and so on).

Of course Morrus could keep the old forum around. He could, for example, double the subscription cost to pay for it. Or win in a lottery. ;)

The worry that EN World might get classified as a social networking site is probably the only real worry. But unfortunately, it doesn't really matter if Morrus changes the site or not. This can always happen, since EN World is already used for this, and I doubt many companies would consider surfing on a RPG forum to be a fruitful and produce use of the company's internet connection or the time of its employees. (Aside from gaming companies, of course. :) ) EN World not being filtered is mostly due to an oversight...

That works... I have been around since 2003 and even have my cute dice bag from the donation drive we had a while back. So, I will be on the site as long as it is around in all honesty.

Thanks for the overview, however. :) Errr....yeah...all..non fan boyish stuff etc... *returns to lurking while at work*

as mustrum said, all this facebook-like stuff is like an add-on/replacement for existing components. The forums should still be here.

The crux of it, from a month or 2 ago, was the friends-seeking gamers functionality. Facebooks friend finding style was a better concept, so they're emulating that. With some adjustments for RPG usefulness.

Thus, your friends list isn't that big a deal. In theory, it would be people your going to game with that you found on here.

I suppose it folks could friend people they like from the forums.

On my ps3/360 and facebook, I'm only friends with people I actually know, because I actually want to stay in tough with them.

Luckily, this site would be a seperate friendslist. Not sure how it'll see play, call it a new experiment.

Other social networking sites are blocked where I do most of my surfing - at work. Including the new WotC boards. That will be the main reason I would have a problem, if one ends up existing. It would be a shame to lose a chunk of us (whose companies place such blocks) that come here as a mental break from our work day.

Ditto. This is my main concern. I tend not to frequent places that I can't access from work.. nothing personal, but it's hard to develop a habit of "seeing what's going on" if you can't login for most of the day.

No wonder billions in worker productivity are wasted every year to internet use.

I know you're kidding a bit, but.. I can easily 70+ hours a week (investment banking). If during the course of a typical 12-15 hour work day, I take an aggregate of 30-45 minutes of breaks to goof off on ENWorld, it probably keeps me from losing my mind.
