Edition Love (not War)

Everyone says I love you
Even the orcs who hate a thing or two
I know a little dungeon we could raid clean and say
that I love you

A princess lost far in the woods
You need to find her without delay soon
But ogres keep tailing us and leaving notes
saying I love you

When the dragons soar from the blue skies
And your mage just snores
There's a little gnome who knows exactly where to go

Everyone you'll ever meet
The fairies and the elves and the pixies too
Even the centaurs who were just passing you
say I love you

What about Holmes and B/X? :)

Though I prefer AD&D or 3.x I enjoy all editions of D&D and would not hesitate to join a game of any edition if invited to play.

Feel the love!

I like how each different edition provides new ideas for me to synthesize into my own game.

I like even better how each different edition provides people an excuse to write and publish more adventures for me to run. :)

D&D has been a part of my life for almost 30 years since I was 11 and my cousin (same age) showed me some of his gaming books. I have bought, played, argued over, made friends with, lost friends over and generally loved D&D for all of that time. Lately, though, the appeal is fading for me. I've lost that drive that had me running 2 high level campaigns a week for over 5 years to now I play once a week, sometimes twice. I know, though, that I'm just going through the motions and D&D is fading into something I don't enjoy as much. I don't look forward to weekly D&D anymore and sometimes am thankful that a game gets canceled or I have to work on D&D night. I'm not even sure why I'm posting this here. Maybe to lament for a lost love.

You might be facing a bit of burnout. Nothing wrong with taking a break from a particular game in favor of doing something else like board games, movie nights, other RPGs. Even hard core gamers need downtime to recharge now and again.

Hm things I loved about each edition? Ok I will give it a try.

OD&D - The Novelty and how the races really felt different from one another.

AD&D - First streamlining of the rules and the great old adventures.

AD&D 2E - Um... the settings, a lot of good setting stuff came out at this time.

D&D 3E - Reviving DnD, the OGL and adding more allowing the game to be more modular, so one can more easily add varies rules or take them out to tweak things.

D&D 4e - Focus on bringing in new blood to the hobby. Being quick and easy to learn to play.

I love fantasy roleplaying games, no matter what flavor they come in. In this genre I have played or am playing:

D&D (every edition and version)
Tunnels & Trolls
Pathfinder
Castles & Crusades
Basic Fantasy RPG

...and they have all loved me back in some way, shape or form.
