Have you learned the difference between "lose" and "loose? Between "rogue" and "rouge"?

"Welcome to the world of Dungeons and Dragons!

Before you are allowed to read the manuals on how to play the game please answer the following:

Which of these would you use:
1. The rogue sneaked quite warily around the loose tiles on the wet floor of the turret of Bastille towards the recently constructed altar which had been affecting the fallen angel's psychic powers of domination.
2. The rouge snuck quit wearily arount the lose tilles on the whet floor of the turrent oh base tiles toward the re-sently constricted alter wich had ben effecting teh failen angles physic powers of dominantion.

Answer must be in the form of an adventure plot. Bonus points for pointing out words which are actually proper in both forms."

:p

Now edited for correct spilling..spelin..words. =)

Hint: If you're trying to show off grammatical prowess, get your possessives correct. :p

My gripe is quite the opposite - Powerpoint is designed to make standard "I stand up here and talk" easier for the presenter. It tends to be less interactive than a simple white/blackboard, which at least engages the student more with a fundamentally more dynamic and potentially interactive presentation that canned Powerpoint provides.

Which is not to say that principles and heads don't see it as potentially interactive - just that they've largely got it wrong. :/

100% with you there. They've got it very wrong, but, to some, the appearance of change/ self-deception lets it happen, e.g. 'we've got Powerpoint, so that makes us business-like, entrepeneurial and dynamic . . .'
The reality is they're crushing the kids' will to live, handing down 'knowledge' and neatly dressed up in the Emperor's New Clothes.

I seem to be really confused with those overall. How should you say it for it to be correct? Angel's?

Depends on whether you're talking about one angel or many.

One angel: ...the fallen angel's psychic powers of domination.
Many angels: ...the fallen angels' psychic powers of domination.

Of course, you could be talking about a mentalist named Mr. Angels, who stumbled on a loose tile. In that case, common practice is this:

Mr. Angels: ...the fallen Angels's psychic powers of domination.

To summarize:

  • All singular nouns form possessives by adding an apostrophe followed by S. This is true even if the singular noun itself ends with S.
  • Plural nouns that end with S just add the apostrophe.
  • Plural nouns that do not end with S add an apostrophe followed by S, e.g., "the people's hero."
