Effects of being an outsider.

Another player in a game I just joined was wondering what exactly the effects of being an outsider is, he is playing a Asimar. I started looking and besides a couple spells that would not effect him could not find much more. Any comprehensive list would help, I was thinking it should be somewhat special since its what monks get at 20th level but I've never played one before as a character.

If he's a native outsider, that's it really. If he leaves his native plane, he may be subject to summoning/banishment, but I'm not sure.

If I remember correctly, as per the Monster manual- you have prof. with all simple and martial weapons... and any armor mentioned in the monster description.

Being an outsider will allow him more options WRT Polymorph... Astral Deva is a "good" form for a 12th level caster.. no pun intended. ;)

With respect to...

Normally Outsider forms aren't available from the Polymorph spell:

The new form may be of the same type as the subject or any of the following types: aberration, animal, dragon, fey, giant, humanoid, magical beast, monstrous humanoid, ooze, plant, or vermin.

Aasimar are native outsiders. As long as they are on their native plane (presumably the prime material plane), they are not subject to the spell dismissal; however, the higher level one that sends outsiders to a random plane (rather than their home plane - I think banishment) will send an aasimar someplace. Any spell or effect that only affects humanoids will not affect native outsiders (such as lycanthropy, my air genasi was once disappointed to discover).

You are right that dismissal will not send an aasimar on his home plane anywhere, but not because he has the Native subtype. It won't send anyone anywhere if they are on their home plane. It doesn't care about any types or subtypes other than Extraplanar.

I thought you were right about banishment sending outsiders away, regardless of what plane they are on, but checking the SRD it doesn't mention outsiders either: It's extraplanar creatures, just like dismissal. Maybe it was a 3.5 change.
