Effects that can make an incorporeal undead corporeal?

It may stretch your resources, but heal does cure insanity you know.

If the mere satisfaction of revenge clears her head, then she's probably not truly crazy and remove fear would work (at least give it a try ... what do you have to lose?).

Heal might work if it's referring to the mental condition rather than the spell...

Remove fear only gives a +4 bonus vs fear and suppresses existing fear effects for 10 minutes. The one spell is specifically counters, cause fear, has a duration of only 1 round.

Plots Hinging on Insane NPCs

If she's really crazy, then heal will fix her.

If she's not crazy, then removing the source of her anxiety should fix her.

Also, I seriously doubt that she's the only connected person in the Underworld that you have access to. Don't you have a competent rogue with Diplomacy and/or Gather Information in your party?

Spells to look at:

Ghost Trap (Libris Mortis, 6th level cleric/7th level sorcerer/wizard spell) - You radiate a 5ft/caster level field that negates incorporeality, turning all incorporeal creatures corporeal.

Incorporeal Nova (Libris Mortis, 5th level cleric/6th level sorcerer/wizard spell) - You destroy 1d4 HD per level worth of incorporeal creatures in an area.

1. Kill the ghost yourself ... it's just easier that way.

Already said why I'm trying to get her to be the one to do it... which is admittedly especially hard, given the whole mental-block-or-spell-that's-keeping-her-from-seeing-it thing... Thus, turn it corporeal or capture it and come up with a suitable way to reveal it to her. (We know faerie fire works--we tried it once and she could see the outline, but then the ghost de-manifested.)

2. Try calming her with remove fear.

See above post.

3. If that doesn't work, spring for a heal to remove her insanity.

She doesn't seem actually insane, just mentally disturbed... besides, it might be referring to the spell insanity.

You know, if she's truly insane ... having her kill the ghost probably won't work anyways.

From everything I can find out about her personality and background, this looks like it would work.

Sooooo.... any suggestions actually related to the question I originally asked?

AHA! Ghost trap is exactly what I was looking for. THANKS.

Now, I just need to get my hands on it...

Glad I could help!

Now, the question is, what is the incorporeal turned corporeal creatures strength score?

Mmm... not sure, probably 15-18... we'll want to do what we can to restrain it--tanglefoot bags?--and let the female character get in the killing blow...

DM Craziness & Confusion / Unrealistic NPCs

The PHB definition of heal does not have the term insanity in italics, but it does italicize the term confused.

Therefore, one could reasonably rule that heal cures both insanity and regular madness.

Look, if your DM does not let you dust this ghost, heal this NPC, and move on, then they are seriously ignoring game mechanics.

So, once again:

1. If she's not crazy, removing the source of her irritation will work.
2. If she's crazy: kill the ghost, heal her and continue on with the mission.

Dude, you're either crazy or you're not.

If this NPC doesn't have a mental problem preventing her from getting her act together, then you should also consider the use of blackmail and/or the Intimidation skill to straighten her out.

The last thing you need standing in the way of your party's goals is a temperamental NPC ... or, worse yet, a DM that plays loose with the rules in order to railroad you.

You seem to have some real agression towards this DM, why is that? I'm pretty certain that any talk of DM stubborness or railroading has come from you, not the OP.

I'm happy to join in a bout of Bad DM bashing, but shouldn't we make sure the DM is bad first? ;)
