Eladrin Warlord 7 retraining daily 5

My eladrin tactical warlord just hit 7th level so I'm going to retrain out his 5th level daily attack power for something else. For the last couple of levels he's had Rock and a Hard Place, which I've found has value that is inversely proportional to the difficulty of the encounter. That's exactly the opposite of what I want a daily to do!

I'd like to retrain Rock and a Hard Place for a daily that gets better the harder the encounter is. Any suggestions? (He already has Lead the Attack, fwiw.)

A Rock and a Hard Place looks pretty good on paper, though I've never seen it in play. Is the problem that, in tough solo/elite fights, the enemy is either attacking you or not missing your defender (and thus not triggering A Rock and Hard Place)?

For other 5th level warlord dailies, Stand the Fallen is kind of vanilla, but letting every ally within 10 squares spend a healing surge is great, and fits your Leader role. Keterys rated it a B+ in his Grading Daily Powers thread (which does not include Martial Power stuff).

We've found that "Stand the Fallen" has been a real tide-turner of a Warlord power on at least two occasions for a 7th level party. Being able to grant a healing surge to all your mates within 10 whether or not your attack hits is brilliant in tough battles.

Cheers

Particularly since what makes a tough battle tough is usually enemy area/multiple target attacks. Once, two level 4 non-elite lizard things (I can't remember the name) brought half the party past bloodied on the first turn.. it was a level FIVE party, too.. just because they had good area attacks and two shots of them hit so many people.

I've found Stand the Fallen to be good as well, especially since tactical lords tend to be short on other healing effects.

I'm gonna add my vote for Stand The Fallen. It's an absolute tide turner and, as you asked for, gets "better" (or at least sees more use) the harder the encounter.

Plus it's really cool to think of your warlord smashing someone in the face whilst shouting "Back on your feet you curs! You're better than this!" Then watching your team collectively wipe the blood from their noses and cut the previously gloating enemies to ribbons.

My Warlord uses Stand the Fallen, and has never looked back. If your group has a crazy excess of healing you might want to consider something else, though.

Yeah, the problem with Rock and a Hard Place is threefold:
1) They can just attack me to avoid the stance's damage.
2) They just have to get one square away to avoid it. Not hard.
3) Even if they do attack an ally while adjacent to me, the higher level the monster, the higher its attack bonus. The increased chance of hitting is the nail in the power's coffin for me.

Thanks for the feedback, folks! Stand the Fallen certainly does look like a good power to take - I had the short list down to that and Pike Hedge (he uses a greatspear). I *think* we're okay for healing now - I just took Lion's Roar as my encounter 7, so now I can grant three surges and three saving throws per encounter. On top of that, we usually adventure with a dwarf cleric.

Stand the Fallen looks like a great safety net, but Pike Hedge has some interesting interactions with forced movement powers like Positioning Strike and Come and Get It. It's a tough call.

I've gotten good mileage out of Fearless Rescue (lvl 1, MP). The instantaneous payoff to recovering a fallen ally has come in handy perhaps a little too often....
